It’s definitely been difficult. Building a class for a format that most people haven’t heard of (POUND) is extremely challenging, and in many ways, I feel the pressure to put my best foot forward to show people that there is a lot to love about the format. For Pixigig, we specialize in beautiful, custom backdrops and on-site printing. We actually don’t carry basic backdrops. All of our backdrops are fully textured and 3-dimensional. They are also on a wood frame rather than pipe and base, so we have a sturdy place to add large floral arrangements or custom carved elements. I’m really most proud of how we are able to offer full customization. We get to be creative with our clients and incorporate some really unique ideas. They usually come to us with a very general idea of what they are looking for and we help expand upon that idea. The results are beautiful! Read More>>

It started a year or so ago, I made this taco seasoning at home and thought it was great so I gifted some to family at Christmas. They raved about it and encouraged me to start selling it. So this past fall, I worked on my recipe more, designed packaging, started marketing online and had to come up with a name that catches the eye more than “Christa’s Taco Mix”. That’s when Basic B!tch Seasoning Co. came into play. It’s a fun name (that reflects me, lol) and I knew the name would stand out and it describes me perfectly. Read More>>

Because I have taken this journey slowly and with a lot of intention, the struggles have been minimal. For many years I have considered this a side job – something supplemental (and let’s be honest – super fun) to my primary job as an occupational therapist (OT) or as a federal employee. If nothing else, I am adaptable, and with recent changes I am looking at current reality as an opportunity to go all-in on my gifts and make Jannanimals my full-time work. Taking a chance and going 100% in on something self-created, with no certainty of success, feels kind of scary – but exciting! In Los Angeles, my friends were artists and musicians. During this time, the immigrant community was under attack with Prop 187 that sought to deputize teachers, doctors, nurses, and social workers into immigration agents. This caused artists to express their anger and protest through their art. There was always something to do from art exhibits to live music concerts. I was surrounded by creativity and activism that helped form my values as a person and member of society. I understood that change can happen in creative and unique ways and I now seek to empower artists to use their art for the greater good. Read More>>
