Today we’d like to introduce you to URIEL BRG.
Hi URIEL BRG, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Uriel Marshall, I’m a 24-year-old Brazilian musician professionally known as URIEL BRG. I recently recorded and released “OUTTA HERE,” a contemporary jazz track fully arranged by me and produced by Yan Perchuk, whose artistry and talent really impressed me. I write and produce all of my own music, though I’m always open to collaborating with other artists and composers. My sound is deeply shaped by my love for opera, jazz, and punk—three genres that form the foundation of my musical identity.
Creativity has always been at the center of my life. As a kid, I was endlessly curious and quick to pick up new skills. At 14, I began learning programming languages like PHP and HTML—skills I still use today, including to build my own website. By 17, I was experimenting with game development, and later I explored audiovisual production, though the cost of equipment made it challenging to pursue. Even so, every step of that journey has shaped who I am as an artist and continues to fuel my music. Looking ahead, I hope to direct my own music videos—bringing together all of my creative passions into one space.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a constant battle, especially as a Black artist trying to carve out space in the music industry. I’ve faced struggles with access to opportunities and building the right connections. I never had a formal mentor to guide me, but I learned to create my own support system. Through genuine friendships and, in particular, my involvement in a fraternity, I was able to connect with people who shared my values and goals. Those relationships have become the backbone of my journey.
What’s worked best for me is focusing on quality over quantity when it comes to relationships. Instead of relying on one mentor, I’ve built a diverse circle of people I can learn from and lean on. I believe in supporting my friends for life—whenever I get an opportunity, I make sure to bring others with me so they can benefit too. To me, everyone and everything holds potential if you look at it the right way. It’s really about surrounding yourself with people who genuinely care about your growth, and making sure you give that same energy back.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. Pursuing music where I grew up wasn’t easy—opportunities were scarce, and I didn’t have access to instruments, formal training, or industry connections. But my passion for music has been alive since I was 14, and it pushed me to create my own path.
At 18, I started teaching myself how to produce music completely from scratch. I began by remixing songs from other artists and uploading them to YouTube. While I couldn’t monetize those remixes, they were invaluable because they sharpened my production skills and helped me grow a small but loyal following on social media.
Eventually, I founded my own independent record label, FUSE FOUR, which gave me a platform not only to share my own work but also to help other emerging artists find their audience and build real connections with listeners. Today, I’m working on my debut studio album while also producing multiple tracks from my home studio.
What I’m most proud of is how my sound continues to evolve. I don’t box myself into one genre—one song might be infused with funky jazz influences, while another bursts with raw punk or indie-rock energy. What sets me apart is this freedom to merge styles and create something that feels authentic, alive, and deeply personal. For me, music isn’t about fitting into a category—it’s about constantly exploring and reshaping what sound can be.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
The “luck” I’ve experienced often comes from the people I’ve met and the genuine relationships I’ve built along the way—friends, collaborators, and supporters who believed in me and helped open doors. I’m grateful for going viral on social media and for having an audience that actually listens to my music. I also consider myself lucky simply for being who I am, knowing what I want, and understanding the vision behind the things I create.
At the same time, I’ve faced my share of bad luck. I’ve been the target of an internet stalker since 2022—someone jealous of every success I’ve had, who tried to bring me down, spreading lies and dismissing my music as “trash.” That experience made me question whether fame was truly worth it and whether this was the life I really wanted. It was a hard reminder that even if some people support you, others may dislike you for no reason at all. But these setbacks taught me resilience, pushed me to work harder, sharpen my skills, and made me stay creative no matter the circumstances. After all, I’m the first person who has to enjoy my own music.
In the end, I’d say luck is really a combination of preparation and connection. The more you invest in your craft and nurture meaningful relationships, the more “luck” seems to show up. Being prepared to have the strength to deal with all circumstances and most embarrassing situations.
