Today we’d like to introduce you to SURGE (Band Interview).
Hi SURGE (Band Interview), so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We’re basically some rockers who somehow found each other in the small town of Uvalde, Texas. SURGE formed in 2021 as an original band with one simple rule: take our songs everywhere and test them out on real crowds. So that’s what we did — we hit the road across Texas and played wherever they’d let us, from sweaty dive bars to backyard stages. Those shows were our laboratory and it helped us learn what worked, what hit, and what didn’t.
San Antonio quickly became a second home for us. It was the first city that really gave us a chance to share our music with a wider crowd, and those early S.A. shows cemented our connection to the scene and to the people who became our first real fans. That momentum eventually helped carry us to bigger stages — including Rocklahoma (2024) and multiple performances at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, opening for legends like Lita Ford and Steven Pearcy. We’ve also released three singles and two music videos – “Outta Control” and “Crazy Little Bitch” during this time, with our full-length album releasing very soon.
Everything we’ve done has been built the hard way: DIY promotion, late nights, saving for studio time, and a lot of faith. We’ve grown organically with hard, honest work and a lot of integrity to our music, fans, and the industry.
At the end of the day, SURGE is about the songs and the connection. We make music because we love to create, and we keep going because the people who come out to our shows keep believing in us. From Uvalde to San Antonio and beyond, we’re still on that same path: writing, playing, and earning every single fan one stage at a time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, it’s been anything but smooth. Being a female-fronted rock band, we’ve definitely had to fight harder to be taken seriously in certain circles. There are still those old stereotypes out there, and getting our foot in the door with venues and within the industry hasn’t come easy. It’s been a constant grind, a lot of proving ourselves, earning respect one show at a time.
We’ve put in countless late-night rehearsals, long drives across Texas, and more sacrifices than most people ever see. Friendships, college, family time, even just sleep. There have been moments where it felt like everything was working against us, but we’ve never stopped pushing.
What’s kept us going is that fire in us, and that belief in what we’re doing and the connection we have with our fans. Every struggle has shaped us, made us tighter as a band and stronger as individuals. It’s been tough, yeah, but it’s also made every small victory feel that much more meaningful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We play straight-up rock ’n’ roll, and we live for it. That’s what we do, that’s what we love, and it’s what we’re built for. SURGE is all about the live show — the energy, the excitement, the connection. When we hit the stage, it’s 100% — no half measures. We’re known for giving everything we’ve got, every single time. There’s nothing like feeling that energy from the crowd and giving it right back. That’s why we do this.
We’ve had some incredible moments since starting as an original band in ’21 — playing Rocklahoma last year was a huge one for us, and getting to hit the stage at the world-famous Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, opening for Lita Ford and Steven Pearcy, was surreal. Those are the kinds of nights you dream about when you’re starting out. But honestly, what we’re most proud of is the hard work and integrity that’s gotten us this far. Every member of this band shows up, puts in the work, and stands by the music. We don’t cut corners, and we don’t fake anything.
What sets us apart is our look, our attitude, and the fact that we still believe rock ’n’ roll should be loud, wild, and over the top. We bring that old-school spirit with a modern punch. We love collaborating with other bands, being part of killer lineups, and winning over new fans the best way we know how — by bringing it on stage. At the end of the day, we’re just here to keep real rock alive and remind people what it feels like to feel something again.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Honestly, inspiration comes from a lot of places for us. We’re artists, so it’s everything from music documentaries and biographies of the greats, to just everyday life and the people around us. Books like The Dirt by Mötley Crüe or Heavier Than Heaven, the Kurt Cobain biography. They remind us that every band’s journey has its chaos, and that the struggle is part of the story.
We also love watching behind-the-scenes content and interviews with artists who’ve been through it, you know, the people who made it on their own terms. That kind of honesty and grit fires us up. On the practical side, we use a few tools to keep things running…stuff like Pro Tools for writing songs, Canva for our social media, and Spotify for Artists, but at the end of the day, what really keeps us grounded is staying connected to each other, to our fans, and to why we started this in the first place.
