Rising Stars: Meet Steven Alvarado of Southside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Alvarado.

Steven, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started off as an artist making music traveling doing shows but one day we needed a music video filmed and we had people limo everything set up and camera guy couldn’t make it so we went to Best Buy n bought a canon 7d .Not knowing anything about filming or cameras but we got the video done. After the video came out everyone was asking , who did y’all music video?
different artist starting reaching out to us film their videos cause we already knew a lot of artist. So we started G SNAP FILMS and started filming music videos comedies short zombie skits interviews with actors , really anything for content. It was maybe a couple months before I moved to of my roommates , but I was still getting calls to film but didn’t have my own camera and former roommate wasn’t really trying to film anymore or lend camera so I found someone that had a descent camera and started renting it out from them every time I had a shoot.Eventually saved up to buy my own camera , I remember thinking I’m about to spend $1500 on a camera, but I did and I’m glad was the best decision I’ve even made.I started my own company Static Tv and filmed as much as I could music videos , commercials , promos, ,interviews , weddings really anything someone needed filmed.I was still working a 9-5 but eventually felt like I was loosing out on so much working for someone else for so little, what I was making a week I could make in a day.I tried to ask if I could go part time but they didn’t wanna hear it and let me go.I was nervous when I came home and told me wife but I knew I could do it.That week I booked 2 music videos and photoshoot , and I knew I made the right decision.Fast forward to now maybe 17years since I first picked up a camera and to look back and think about all the cities I’ve traveled to , all the people I’ve met , all the events or weddings that Ive met so many awesome families or businesses commercials actors I’ve met thru filming movies all the artists that trust me to bring their vision to life thru music videos .. I’m blessed to do what I love doing everyday and to think it was all from that first time I picked up a camera.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like anything if life theres always gonna be obstacles but how you handle those struggles and get back on track is most important. Believe me there have been plenty of times when I just wanted to throw in the towel but I didn’t.i broke my ankle right before Covid and went thru surgery and couldn’t walk for awhile , but I was still getting calls to film it was crazy but we were so worried about getting infected and bringing it back home but once I was able to stand I started filming again I would mask up an have my friend push me in a wheelchair while I film or I would use crutches when I could. I remember falling a couple time trying to move around with the camera but I always made sure the camera was safe, but I got the jobs done and eventually healed up covid was over and I went back to filming. If you love what you do you will find a way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
filming and editing is my everyday routine , I eat sleep film edit repeat ,I think cause I started as an artist I shoot from an artist perspective sometimes cause I know how hard it is being an artist. So every project I try me best to bring songs to life and also give the artist what they want also, its a balance but as long as the client is happy with the final product my job was a success.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My wife and kids have been a great support for me.
