Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Campos.
Hi Sophia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I moved to San Antonio after college, I was excited to get reacquainted with the city I considered home. Even though I had never lived here, I visited my relatives in San Antonio every summer growing up, and each time I craved the cheese enchiladas and breakfast tacos that I couldn’t find anywhere else.
By the time I was 21, I knew San Antonio’s had grown immensely, and I couldn’t wait to get to know San Antonio again through its explosive new food and bar scene. My now fiancé suggested I start an Instagram account documenting all the places I tried since I was always trying to take my best iPhone portrait photos of my plates, and I agreed. Then, my friend Stacy, who also moved to San Antonio after college, asked to team up and I said “of course!”
We both loved adventuring to bars and restaurants together, and we found we made a good team when it came to trying restaurants in different parts of town and meeting new people. Now, “Where’s the Food” has grown to over 3,000 followers and counting, and we’re running out of puns for our captions!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily, content has never been an issue because Stacy and I both really enjoy venturing out and trying new local restaurants, coffee shops, and bars! From the time we began the account in 2017 to now, we’ve seen tons of restaurants open and close, and have been grateful to be invited to openings and fun contests. The food scene in San Antonio is incredible, and although a lot of change has already happened, we know it will only continue to grow.
Of course, with COVID-19 it’s been difficult to venture out as much since 2020. Especially with an eight-month-old, Stacy and her fiancé have opted for takeout to keep their little one as safe as possible during the pandemic – their first priority.
We’re happy to have a small presence and the ability to let locals know when and where they can expect a new restaurant to open, take advantage of great experiences and specials around town. The central theme of our account is a community and informing locals about all the amazing events in our beautiful and unique city.
There’s so much San Antonio has to offer and one of the best ways to discover it is through its cuisine.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work in corporate communications for Indeed.com (remotely), and previously in the same field at USAA and other San Antonio companies.
Communication goes hand-in-hand with my passion for connecting with people in our community and documenting and writing about our experiences. My fiancé and I are also in the process of renovating a house we hope to turn into a vacation rental. We’ve also done tons of projects in our nearly 100-year-old casita near downtown.
Stacy works in medical device sales with a focus on diabetes-related products. She previously worked for Medtronic and is now a regional business manager for Ascensia Diabetes. She loves working with doctors and patients to provide therapies that can improve the quality of life for type 1 and type 2 diabetics.
Stacy has a special connection to many of her patients as she has been living with type 1 diabetes for over 15 years. Stacy is also a first-time mom to her soon-to-be eight-month-old, Emerson.
What do you think about luck?
We’ve been lucky in the sense that content has never been hard to find – every time we check out the place we’ve been wanting to try, we discover more to explore. Our list never gets smaller!
Connecting with food bloggers is one of the best parts – they’ve shared awesome tips and tricks when it comes to taking photos and they’ve invited us to places and events. When we made our account, we did it to have fun, connect with locals and discover the city, and we’ve been successful in following through.
