Rising Stars: Meet Samantha Sloan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Sloan.

Hi Samantha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been creative! Even as a young girl, I would paint, photograph, and beautify anything I could get my hands on. I LOVE pictures and my home houses shoe box after shoe box of images of my family and multiple generations. I believe in the power of printed images!

When I had my own kids, I played around a bit with photography but I had my hands quite full raising them. Once my boys started school full time, I was able to slowly give more of my time to my business. I remained part-time for several years till 2020.

In March of 2020, when covid hit… it took a toll on our finances. I needed to start working full-time in order to support my family. I took the leap and haven’t looked back since. Working full time is of the best decisions I have ever made! My fellow creatives know that we are never truly fulfilled in life unless we are creating our art! It fills my soul in a way that no other “desk job” ever could!

Meeting mothers and their families has also been such a gift! I LOVE Moms. I love getting to know them. I love hearing about their babies. I LOVE watching their babies grow up right before my eyes. It is such a joy to be able to document these life milestones for people.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
If I am being completely honest… my single, most difficult hurdle has been… myself. Not believing in myself has cost me a lot of wasted time and unneeded heartache.

Literally years! I am a perfectionist through and through, and while that *can serve me well in my career, it can also be a downfall and cause major analysis paralysis and prevent me from moving forward. I try to live by the phrase “Done is better than perfect”.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer. I specialize in posed studio newborn and maternity photography. I am also expanding my business this year to include beauty and boudoir photography as well as corporate headshots. You can check out my boudoir work here: https://www.instagram.com/boudoir_by_samantha/.

I absolutely love working with moms and all women! I love making them feel beautiful and speaking positivity into their lives and building them up. I started the #youreagoodmom initiative a few years ago. I always try to say and post encouraging things to moms on social media and whenever I am working with them.

Life and motherhood are HARD… my goal is to encourage. You can read more about my #youreagoodmom story and goals here: http://samanthasloanphotography.com/welcome/youre-a-good-mom/.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My number one supporter by far is my husband! He has never ever doubted me, even when I doubted myself. I also have an amazing network of family and friends cheering me on every step of the way.

I also mentored a fabulous woman, Angelica Sam and she encouraged me to really go for it and become an expert at my craft!
