Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryn Pitts
Hi Ryn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Serendipity Social Co. in what seemed like a random moment back in 2021 while on summer vacation in Los Angeles…
Leading up to my trip, I had been working as a Micro-Influencer in Dallas, Texas, collaborating closely with brands like Steve Madden and Fabletics to curate content, generate sales, and market new products in an organic, community-driven way. At the same time, I was working as a Visual Merchandiser at Forever 21 in The Galleria, where I gained hands-on experience in product placement, promotional marketing, and customer engagement.
By the time my vacation arrived, I knew I wanted to dive deeper into my passions for Content Creation and Marketing. So, I reached out to local businesses in the areas where I’d be staying and offered to create free content for them. It was a win-win—I built my portfolio and expanded my network beyond Dallas, while the businesses received high-quality content to use for their online marketing. With that in mind, I created A LOT of content—everything from short, informational interviews to Instagram videos, YouTube content, and fully staged, creatively directed photoshoots featuring business owners, staff, and even local connections I made along the way.
I spent the entire summer in LA, from June to August, working alongside brands, learning from local creatives, and, of course, enjoying really, REALLY good food. It was one of the best summers of my life. And as it came to an end, I had everything I needed to start my journey as a Freelance Content Creator—except a business plan.
By August, I knew it was time to be intentional about all the work I had been doing. I researched business plans, set general goals for Content Creators in the media space, and spent way too much time on YouTube listening to other Entrepreneurs’ journeys and advise. By the end of the month, I had developed a five-year plan—one that I like to call “loosely disciplined.” It was structured enough to guide my business growth, yet flexible enough to leave room for God’s plans (which, as we all know, sometimes throw a wrench in what we thought our plans were) and for life itself (because, let’s be honest, life happens).
When I returned to Dallas in early September, I hit the ground running. I sent my portfolio to local brands and tapped into my creative community to find new leads. Before I knew it, I was working with Small Businesses, helping them enhance their online presence through strong visual content. I also prioritized networking—because the best connections are made face-to-face. I attended countless events, shaking hands and introducing myself in every way possible. And it was working!
A few months before my LA trip, I met my long-time client and now best friend, Avery Zapata, owner of Zapata House. Initially, I had modeled her clothing for photoshoots. But after returning from LA, I transitioned behind the camera, capturing her products and coordinating collaborations with models and Influencers. As time passed, Avery found herself overwhelmed by the demands of managing and marketing her brand on social media. I completely understood—she had always been the creator, not the maintainer. And that’s why we worked so well together—we balanced each other out.
Then came the moment that changed everything. Avery asked if I wanted to be her Social Media Manager. Talk about a wrench in my plans to be solely focused on Content Creation! But, thankfully, I had my “loosely disciplined” business plan. So, I went back to the drawing board and tried to wrap my head around what it meant to be both a Content Creator AND a Social Media Manager. My conclusion? I was going to be doing a lot of work (haha)—a conclusion that still holds true today.
And just like that, I became Ryn Pitts, Content Creator and Social Media Manager. It was in that exact moment that the name “Serendipity Social Co” was born. It was as if God had whispered it to me Himself—as if He had been waiting for me to be ready before revealing it. As if, by aligning myself with His plan, I was being rewarded.
And so, the name stuck! Today, Serendipity Social Co. LLC stands strong as a San Antonio-based Social Media and Content Creation Agency, helping businesses refine their B2B and B2C outreach to maximize consumer engagement online. What started as a Small Business offering only Photography and Videography has now evolved into a near full-service Social Media Agency, empowering brands to establish a compelling online presence that connects with their ideal consumers and drives meaningful business outcomes.
The company was officially LLC’d in 2022, and today, we specialize in Social Media Marketing & Management, Corporate Photography & Videography, Graphic Design, Website Development & Management, Advertising, and Email Marketing. Our mission is to seamlessly translate a brand’s values into creative, consistent narratives across digital platforms, ensuring a strong and authentic online presence.
Looking back, I’d say starting this company was anything but random—rather, it was truly serendipitous.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hmm, I think one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the past year is the true importance of hard conversations and the value of intentional honesty. This is something I’ve applied heavily in my personal life, but I definitely learned it through business first. Like anything we do for the first time, we start as beginners. I was a beginner when I hired my first employee—and while I would say that I’m still a beginner as a leader and employer (because I am), I now have some skin in the game, as I like to say. 😉
During the eight months I had my first hire, I learned a lot, and I can genuinely say that we both did. But the most impactful lesson for me came at the end of our working relationship. Our final conversation was incredibly difficult because of the great bond we had built—we shared many similarities and interests—but it was also eye-opening.
When I talk about intentional honesty, I mean being honest with yourself about your goals and needs while also being intentional in the way you communicate them. It’s about making sure your words carry meaning and purpose. In that conversation, we both practiced intentional honesty, and by the end, it was clear that our goals weren’t in alignment. We thanked each other for the time and lessons we had shared, and ultimately, we decided it was best to go our separate ways.
I categorize this as a challenge because having to source new talent, conduct interviews, and vet candidates—all while picking up the workload left behind—was tough. It forced me to restructure my recruitment process, refine my hiring criteria, and ensure that my business evolved with the lessons I had learned so I wouldn’t repeat the same challenges.
At the end of the day, it was a learning experience that shaped me as a leader. And honestly, it lit a fire under me to get serious about structuring my systems and processes in a way that would set my business up for long-term success.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Serendipity Social Co. is a San Antonio-based Social Media and Content Creation Agency dedicated to helping businesses refine their B2B and B2C outreach to maximize consumer engagement online. We specialize in Social Media Marketing & Management, Corporate Photography & Videography, Graphic Design, Website Development & Management, Advertising, and Email Marketing. Our mission is to seamlessly translate a brand’s values into creative, consistent narratives across digital platforms, ensuring a strong and authentic online presence.
Personally, I’d say we’re known for a few things around town, but one of the biggest is our community involvement. I always say that we’re not just another Marketing Agency—we’re an Agency that truly has the community at the heart of everything we do. Community is deeply ingrained in both my personal and company values, and I’ve loved finding ways to honor that year-round through our work.
One of the most notable examples of this is our work with The Lemonade Circle, a Black-Owned Nonprofit Organization dedicated to leading change, empowering voices, and transforming lives by uplifting young women of color in San Antonio—with an emphasis on Black girls in 5th grade and beyond—helping them #makeLEMONADE out of life’s lemons. Our partnership with TLC extends far beyond the virtual world. Serendipity Social Co. is a proud Community Partner, and on a deeper level, I serve on their Leadership Board as the Director of Social Media Marketing, helping to maintain a strong online presence that showcases all of the incredible work they do.
Every June, we collaborate with TLC to host the Content Queens Summer Program, where I personally mentor three selected TLC members through various Content Creation trainings. During the program, the Queens develop new skills, build their portfolios, and expand their networks while working with small local businesses during our Class Content Days.
Beyond that, Serendipity Social Co. hosts three annual giveaways designed to uplift and empower local small businesses. We bring together different businesses, leveraging each other’s expertise and talents to provide meaningful support to the giveaway winners. These initiatives not only help Entrepreneurs gain visibility but also foster collaboration and strengthen our community. We also offer a wide range of Social Media Workshops aimed at equipping individuals with essential skills for navigating the digital landscape. From beginner-level courses covering social media basics to advanced workshops focusing on strategic marketing techniques, our goal is to provide accessible and practical education to help community members thrive in today’s competitive business environment. By sharing our expertise and resources, we aim to foster growth, innovation, and prosperity within our community.
In addition to our deep commitment to community empowerment, what sets Serendipity Social Co. apart is our dedication to authentic, engaging representation tailored to each client’s needs. We take the time to build real relationships with our clients, ensuring we understand not only their business goals but their why. We believe that truly knowing the business allows us to tell its story in the most genuine way possible.
Another thing that makes our agency unique is that we’re involved in the entire creative process—from conceptualization to creation, post-production, distribution, and management. I always say that once we get into our groove, our clients shouldn’t have to do anything on social media except double tap their screen when they see our content during their personal doom-scroll time.
As we approach our fourth year in business (June 15th—woot woot!), what I’m most proud of is the incredible talent we’ve brought on over the past year. I couldn’t be happier with my team! Taylor Norton, our Lead Social Media Manager, is a breath of fresh air. She’s full of great ideas, a problem-solver, detail-oriented, and a disciplined self-starter. Katie Williams, our Small Business Content Creator and Assistant Event Videographer, does an amazing job balancing her many creative endeavors with her workload. She’s incredibly dependable and brings a positive, supportive energy to every interaction. Our new Company Partners, The Uproot Agency, have given Serendipity Social Co. the extra oomph it needed, allowing us to offer more services than I ever imagined. CEO D’Andre Lay and COO Dromonte Montgomery have been instrumental in our growth and are helping push us toward our next major milestone.
Working with this team has been such a rewarding experience. Seeing our bond strengthen, our individual growth over the past few months, and the new doors opening for us as a collective has been incredible. I’m so excited for what’s next!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest piece of advice would be to be mindful of who you attach your name to, and don’t jump into anything too quickly without doing your research. I will say, I’ve been very fortunate with the partnerships we’ve had, but that’s largely due to my diligence and intentional approach to collaboration.
For anyone in business, I’d recommend first reflecting on whether you actually need partners, employees, or additional support. Once that’s established, outline the benefits of each and set clear intentions for every aspect of your business. Most importantly, take your time in the process. I always say, ‘You can’t run so fast that you trip on your own feet,’ and that’s especially true in business. You don’t want to assume you’re growing faster than you actually are, and you definitely don’t want to grow beyond what you can manage.
Be patient and allow yourself time to feel things out—I love a trial period! If I’m ever considering a partnership or collaboration that could impact my reputation, I make sure to thoroughly vet the person or company. I check out their work, ask for additional examples, and find ways for us to test the relationship. Whether that’s a short-term contract for a specific project, a service exchange, or a trial period lasting anywhere from 30 to 90 days, it’s important to give people room for error. After all, even the most successful companies and organizations have probationary periods for a reason!
