Rising Stars: Meet Mark Perez of Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Perez

Hi Mark, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got my first guitar when I was in 4th grade and ever since then I haven’t stopped playing music. I played in my first band my freshman year of high school and that’s when I would say my path of this music thing really started! I never stopped being on a stage. It wasn’t until 2015 when I decided to start my own band that things really opened up for me. I kind of got popular in California even though I’ve lived in Texas my whole life haha. That’s when I met a lot of talented bands and musicians and ever since then I’ve gotten to tour and play many many cool rock shows. It’s been fun!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall I’m in good health and spirits so I would say it’s been smooth. Being in a band though and wanting to pursue this is definitely a grind and takes hard work and discipline for sure. Wait my brother plays bass in floats so that’s a struggle sometimes lol! Kidding that’s my best friend

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I front the band FLOATS. I write, record and play all the music. I’m proud of how far I’ve come from growing up in the south side of San Antonio to being able to travel and play shows across the country and that I’ve been able to organically grow and connect with so many people through music. I like to have fun and give others their flowers and help others grow just as I have.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My bandmates deserve so much credit. Noel and Edward have been on this grind with me playing with me since I came back. They’ve road dawged with me these couple years I love them. Shoutout the San Antonio scene too, there’s alot of dope people in this business from musicians to promoters and all in between I’m glad I get to call many of them friends. Also gotta give love to many of my peers and fellow musicians out there in Cali without them and their support for me I wouldn’t be playing or traveling.
