Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Lada.
Marissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been interested in spaces. Being environmentally sensitive, growing up I had no idea why a certain place would make me feel anxious, depressed, or the opposite. I just knew that my environment impacted me. My family was never into taking care of the home (I grew up in a family that didn’t value the importance of a home’s impact on your health and happiness): my grandfather was a hoarder, and my parents never redecorated or took care of their home themselves (made any improvements to the home in terms of design)..
Knowing that our homes have such power on us, this led me to a degree in Interior and Environmental Design and working in the industry for 6+ years throughout the country. After graduating with my degree, I worked for two years in a metaphysical store where I discovered energy work. I learned about Feng Shui, the understanding that our environments impact and influence our energy, and got certified as a Feng Shui Consultant.
With my experience, education, and background in homes, I started my own company, Honey Lune Hivery. Though my background is traditionally as an Interior Designer, I understand the holistic perspective of spaces, and how the home can impact and influence one’s physical, mental, emotional, and energetic health. Hence titling my work as ‘holistic homes’. Knowing how much our homes do for us, my goal is to help people improve their relationship with their homes to better their health, happiness, and energy. This doesn’t just look like traditional design work, but Feng Shui, decluttering, and lifestyle coaching as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Certainly not! Honestly, the start of my business was a fluke, or spiritual divine timing. It was 2020, and the pandemic just hit. Even though I had always dreamed of making Honey Lune Hivery into my own business (aside from a side hustle and blog), the timing never seemed right. I ended up being let go of my design position and my place of work, shutdowns had just begun, and I was left with the decision: do I look for another job or do I pursue my passion into making Honey Lune Hivery a reality. I decided the latter.
It was a journey of ups but mostly downs with starting a business during the pandemic and shutdowns. Most of my marketing and business was done online, and it was a struggle to network. Through these challenges however, I learned to grow a strong social media presence for my business and have been able to attract clients from all over the country, doing e-design and virtual/remote services.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Holistic Home Designer. I specialize in helping people build a better relationship with their homes to in return better their health, happiness, and well-being. My work with homes is all-encompassing, so I do home consultations, interior design work, decluttering + organizing, Feng Shui, lifestyle coaching, classes/workshops, and so much more.
I believe my focus on homes as aspects of our health is something that sets me apart from most traditional interior designers. I also go above and beyond, focusing on the energy of our homes, more than just how a space visually looks.
One of the things I am proudest of is my Holistic Home Course. I believe in education and empowerment of others to create these spaces for themselves. You do know your best and what your home needs, so I’ve created a course to help people understand what they need in their home and how to create a home they will love. I cover design, decluttering, feng shui, decor, and so much more. It’s a step-by-step process to help those in the overwhelming task of creating and designing a home.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is small steps towards my goals. I think so many people can get caught up in those BIG dreams and always chasing them, myself included. It’s a good reminder for myself to look back from when I first started Honey Lune Hivery to see how far I have come in my business. From landing my first big client to growing my business through social media, I can look at all the small successes I have had thus far throughout my journey.
