Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Woods.
Hi Karla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in early childhood education began long before I ever stepped into a classroom. As a child, I was shaped by the unconditional love of my grandparents and the steady, nurturing example of my grandmother. Her presence taught me what it means to guide, protect, and uplift a child.
When I became a mother, that calling grew even stronger. I knew I wanted to be a voice for young children especially those who needed someone to advocate for them before they could advocate for themselves. I also wanted to create a place where parents felt genuine peace, knowing their children were safe, cared for, and valued.
That passion has stayed with me throughout my career, and it continues to guide every decision I make as a leader in early childhood education. Along with my faith in God.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like anyone building a career in early childhood education, I’ve faced challenges but the one thing I’ve never been willing to compromise is my integrity.
There were moments when it would have been easier to bend my morals or lower my standard. But no amount of money has ever been worth sacrificing what I believe children and families deserve.
Staying true to my values hasn’t always been the easiest road, but it has always been the right one. That commitment is what shaped me into the leader I am today and why I continue to advocate for safe, nurturing, high quality care for every child.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Preschool Director specializing in child development . I hold a master’s degree in early childhood education and a bachelor’s degree in educational studies (K–12), and I’ve dedicated my career to creating environments where young children can learn, feel safe, and thrive.
My work centers on building strong, developmentally appropriate programs, supporting teachers, and ensuring that every child receives high quality care rooted in best practices. I’m known for my ability to blend warmth with structure creating classrooms that feel like home while maintaining the professional standards families deserve.
What I’m most proud of is the culture I’ve built: one where children are nurtured, families feel supported, and staff feel empowered to grow. I lead with integrity, consistency, and a deep understanding of child development, and I never compromise my values.
What sets me apart is my commitment to doing things the right way, even when it’s not the easy way. I believe children deserve excellence, and I work every day to make sure our center reflects that.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t measured by titles or numbers, it’s measured by impact. I define success as creating a place where children feel safe, loved, and eager to learn; where families feel supported and trust the care we provide; and where teachers feel valued, empowered, and proud of the work they do.
Success is staying true to my morals, even when it’s difficult. It’s leading with integrity, consistency, and compassion. It’s watching a child grow in confidence, seeing a teacher discover their strengths, or hearing a parent say they feel safe leaving their child in our care.
If I can make a positive difference in the lives of children, families, and educators and do it without ever compromising my values then I consider that true success.
