Rising Stars: Meet Joselyn Pena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joselyn Pena.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, I’ve always been a crafty person I get it from my mom, she’s definitely a big part of who I am as a person today.

Growing up, I never really explored crafts but it was always something I did on the side to relax. When I got sick at 15 years old, I was always an athlete but when I got it taken away due to me getting sick with graves’ disease. I started to really explore the crafty side I got from my mom.

Then I got radiation done, and it took such a toll on me as a person I lost my way. I stopped everything.

Then I became pregnant in 2019 and my little girl was definitely my inspiration because I started doing crafts again and I genuinely missed it so I started making things for my family and friends. Then my mom really thought I should share what I make and what I loved to do with others I truly never imagined it would get as big as it is today.

I was at first scared to even share what I made with people but in 2020 is when I finally created my Instagram. I named my business after my daughter because everything I do is for my kids; I have no idea where I would be without my blessing. But in December was when I found out about markets and I could share what I make and love to do with others in person.

I had a baby girl at home who was my inspiration to even try this new thing because I’m a very shy person or I was when I first started. Trust me when I say I was absolutely nervous to even try this but when I first made my first sale, I truly couldn’t believe someone liked what I made enough to even keep it for themselves. I have now been doing markets literally every weekend since I first started, I love connecting with other vendors and customers or just even people coming to my booths to talk.

It’s really brought me out of my shell as a person and I’m extremely blessed to be able to create new things. Markets have honestly helped my daughter as well come out of her shell when she comes with me since she is a pandemic baby she never really was around people. So, I’m extremely blessed to even be in the position I am to do Rosie’s Creations.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was not easy getting to where we are today. Due to me having hypothyroidism, if it’s unstable I’m extremely tired and it’s hard to even get up and find motivation.

I struggle with depression as well so I went thru a period last year I believe where I went Mia because of what I was struggling mentally but I learned how to love myself again and to appreciate everything I do I found my way back to doing what I love to and that was creating new designs and sharing them with people who loved them just as much as I did.

My baby girl and finding out I was pregnant again was definitely a big part of that as well. Because I was now doing this and pushing myself to be better for my kids.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make custom and decorated cups, along with shirts, stickers for other business and business cards as well, keychains, straw toppers, snow globe cups, rhinestone cups, croc charms, and shadow boxes.

I would like to say I’m most proud of all my cups because I see how people love them as well, I’m personally obsessed with new designs I come up with. A new cup always makes me excited.

What are your plans for the future?
Actually, plan on continuing doing markets but more once my baby boy is born.

I also plan on bringing way more things to markets once I’m able to carry more without being so tired or limited like bringing some new keychains and more cup varieties.
