Rising Stars: Meet Jordyn Villarreal of Westover Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Villarreal.

Hi Jordyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
It all started when I was 16 and had a terrible habit of biting my nails. Nail art was very different back in 2011 and 2012. There wasn’t gel polish, so you had to be quick when making designs before your polish dried. I would spend hours and hours in my room, and I wouldn’t ruin my work by biting my nails. As I got older, nails were always a way to relieve stress. It wasn’t until I met my number one supporter, my partner, that I started to take nails seriously. After cosmetology school, I was ready to jump into the industry, but life had other plans; I found out I would be a mom, and my whole life changed. I wanted to do something that she could be proud of me for. With the support of my friends and family, I leaped and started doing my nails. I’m still very new to the beauty industry and can not wait to see what it offers.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being where I am today has not been easy; my pregnancy was rough, so trying to start a business and create life was very tiring. Coming from Houston and not having family in San Antonio was hard, but the people I have met here are amazing and have become my family. My partner works in Louisiana, so he is gone two weeks out of the month, so it can get a little hectic running a business and being on my own, but it works for us, and I wouldn’t change it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a nail tech, I specialize in gel, nail art, and natural nail health. My services include the Après Gel-x extension system, soft and hard gel overlays, and gel polish. For my nail art, I use specific art gels that look so beautiful on the nail. I’m mostly known for my intricate designs as well as character art. I think what sets me apart is my designs. I love doing nails and meeting new people! My proudest moment could be this one! Or when a client raves about my work, it makes you feel like you have a purpose and is where you are meant to be.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If anyone is thinking about doing something and doubting themselves, I advise them to go for it. I put off my dream for a long time. I know it is scary, but you will not regret it.
