Rising Stars: Meet JessAnne Guzman

Today we’d like to introduce you to JessAnne Guzman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I would like to start by thanking Voyage San Antonio Magazine for giving me this opportunity to share my story.

I am a West Texas girl originally from Midland, Texas. I am the oldest of two daughters. I must credit my parents for teaching me how to find passion and fulfillment in the hard work I do.

Being the first in my family to attend college; my road was not the easiest. Based on societal statistics for teen pregnancies, I am not supposed to be where I am in life. I became a teen mom my senior year of high school and during this time, society was not kind to me.

Adults who were supposed to be my mentors and people I look up to judged and degraded me. Instead of providing support to be the best I can be given my situation.

I am so grateful for the one teacher, who took me under her wing and constantly built me up. She told me that motherhood was a blessing and to prove the world wrong because I was special and being a young mom shouldn’t hold me back from achieving my goals. I was raised to be strong and independent, but motherhood forced me to grow up.

To overcome the societal statistic, I had to believe in myself. Moving forward, I enrolled in the cosmetology program provided by the high school while still maintaining my study requirements to graduate. I worked hard, learned social skills, and thrived. I eventually graduated from high school with a license in cosmetology.

I loved my job being a hairstylist and appreciate the success it brought me. Styling hair paid my way through college and taught me many life lessons. I later married my high school sweetheart and the father to my two children, now a daughter and son. For them, I felt the urge to do something more substantial with my life. I’ve always been a nurturer at heart and put my faith in God which led me to enroll in nursing school.

I achieved an associate’s and earned my nursing degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse from Midland College. This was a proud moment in my life because many thought I would fail. In my first nursing job, I worked for a physician who introduced me to the world of aesthetics and taught me everything I know to date.

I found this field to be the most interesting, especially now, since the world of aesthetics is constantly changing and evolving. Since then, in my 14-year tenure in nursing, I have learned many different types and specializations in the field.

I ranged from clinical care, dermatology, geriatric, pediatric, home health, and in-school nursing. Although, what I found to be most passionate about are dermatology, plastics, and aesthetics. I have extensive experience in skincare procedures, specializing in the use of different lasers that treat and reverse the aging process.

I have never been afraid to dream big and am always willing to take risks. If this means gaining life experiences and growth. Coming from a small town, moving to San Antonio has been a considerable accomplishment in my life. I have grown much since moving here and earned many career opportunities. My work currently is maintaining the responsibility of consulting patients, prepping them for surgery, and following up post-surgery for a well-known Plastic Surgeon. I also work in the spa area of the facility. I am passionate about almost anything and everything that involves the skin considering most of my background is in dermatology.

I offer treatments such as chemical peels, micro-needling, and Morpheus 8 that assist with acne, acne scarring, pigmentation, melasma, fine lines, wrinkles, and skin tightening. I also specialize in laser hair and tattoo removal. What more can I say besides, I love my job! This career has shown me far more than I could have ever imagined.

My favorite part of the job is witnessing clients’ positive reactions to their own transformations. I honestly feel I am doing God’s work by changing people’s lives and helping them regain their confidence.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say my biggest challenge was learning to balance life and work.

As a full-time employee and full-time student wanting to be a good wife and mother as well have been difficult. Especially, being a Hispanic woman to an immigrant father, I strived for perfection realizing along the way it’s unrealistic. Life is about learning and growing as a person. It is okay to fail as long as you get back up and work harder. All you can do is try your best. One thing I have learned in retrospect is life is not a competition. The best creations take time. Eventually, everything falls into place.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am focused on reaching my goals to continue to educate myself in aesthetics by taking classes to not only improve my skills but keep updated and evolving. Every year there’s new technology and new treatment protocols. I want to continually offer the best and most up-to-date treatments to my patients.

In my line of work, many patients struggle with self-confidence. I want to be the advocate to guide and assist my patients along the way to overcome their insecurities.

I pride myself on treating my patients as I would my own family member by speaking truthfully and honestly when figuring out a regimen. I also take their lifestyle and budget into consideration.

I believe what sets me apart from others is my love for enhancing their natural appearance.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is making my family proud.

I want my children to know you can accomplish anything as long as you are willing to work for it. I hope to inspire readers to reach for their goals no matter the setbacks. Stay positive and never be afraid to dream big!

Wow! This is someone who is proud and loves what she does. Sign me up for her services now. I haven’t read an article so to the point and honest about taking someone’s financial standing into consideration when recommending procedures and products. Good luck to you and your business and I can’t wait to have you take care of my aging skin…I just pray I can get an appointment quick.
