Hi, Iris; thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My sister, Megan, and I have always loved fashion growing up, and it’s always been our dream to start our own boutique or artistically express ourselves somehow. One day, we were talking on the phone and discussing that we needed a change in our lives. We were reminiscing about when we were younger and how we used to love creating clothes together and would even sell our clothes as a hobby. Ultimately, it led to us discussing ways to incorporate our designs into things we wanted to wear. Designs that we love and that are different from what you see in your typical clothing store or advertised on social media. After spending hours on the phone discussing what we wanted to do, we decided to start our business and create things that reflect what we love and who we are.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our journey has been filled with challenges and struggles along the way. Both of us are mothers; I have one child, while Megan juggles two under two (with another on the way!). We have struggled to balance the demands of our weekday jobs and the responsibilities of running a business together. We have put considerable effort and sacrifice from both of us to keep pushing through the many demands tasked to us. We had to learn so much about handling a business financially and learned to be as efficient as possible with our time. We understand that struggles are an inevitable part of any business journey, and overcoming them only strengthens us, leading us to be more resilient and a successful business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Our main product that we specialize in is designing and creating quality T-shirts featuring our original designs and fulfilling custom orders for our customers. One of our most popular designs is the “Sweet like Pan Dulce” shirt. Our determination to keep pushing forward and pouring our hearts into our work makes us proud. We’re incredibly proud of the wonderful customers and fellow small business owners with whom we’ve had the pleasure of meeting and forming connections throughout this journey. What truly sets us apart is our one-of-a-kind Spanglish designs made for families of all ages.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any essential lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Through this experience, we’ve learned an important lesson of never allowing anything to stand in the way of our dreams and always prioritizing family above all else.
