Today we’d like to introduce you to Dierks.
Hi Dierks, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Waves In April met at school of rock and formed in 2019 as a pop punk cover band. We were literal kids so we didn’t quite know what we wanted to do yet. As we grew up we all started gradually leaning towards heavy music. We just found the whole scene so cool and love what it stands for, so we wanted to be apart of it. We’ve been playing music together for almost 8 years now, and this year alone feels like such a step up.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s highs and lows. My biggest struggle is swallowing the fear of having to constantly put myself out there on social media. Touring has always been a blast for us since were such a tight knit, and were all so young right now so we really can pour everything we have into this lifestyle.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love the ever evolving nature that this band has. When we write as a unit we don’t necessarily say “okay let’s write metal core”. We really try to put out what is most genuine and true to us. My favorite thing we’ve done so far is the title track to our new record “As Above, So Below”. We wanted to write an epic, long, heavy conclusion to the record. It took us around 4 months to finalize this one because we needed it to be just right. Elle absolutely crushed on the lyrical content as well, hits you right in the gut.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Ever since this band started we’ve always just gone with the wind and did what we thought was right. Of course that includes social media grinding and all, but we really just want to make friends and play heavy music to bigger and bigger audiences. Being nice has always pushed the world forward and it certainly keeps us going.
