Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Bradish.
Hi Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Absolutely, thanks for asking. I have been in the industry for 7 years, I love what I do. When I was deciding where to open up a shop, I chose Seguin. I did this because I was told the upscale luxury shop that used to be in town was no longer here. The city is growing. What better place to go to? After years of working at other barber shops, I got irritated with how things were being run. I decided that I could bring something different to the table. I currently rent a chair as I build my business up; this year, I plan on getting a larger space to grow my business, hiring employees, and bringing that luxury experience to more people in this area.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I definitely wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road, as when I left any of the shops I worked at, I would have to rebuild clientele due to non-compete contracts that you have to sign, or they don’t hire you. The rising costs of things haven’t helped either. But I have a lot of support from my husband, friends, clients, etc.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Anyone can learn how to do a good haircut, but there’s a different art to shaping a beard or doing a fade with a razor. I always tell people that I specialize in beards and shaves. I’ve taken extra classes in both of those things to ensure no matter the hair type, I can provide a quality service for that particular thing.
What matters most to you?
You are taking care of your employees. If they’re unhappy, they aren’t going to do the work. People need to be taken care of at their jobs. We spend more time at them than at home. If I set a goal and you reach it or surpass it, we’re having a party, or if you prefer some extra time off work for a job well done, that’s what you’re getting. I’ve worked in places where all that mattered was hitting this goal, and then once you hit it, they tell you to do more. But there’s no reward. Then you bust your ass for nothing, which makes you not want to do it anymore. Take the time to learn what motivates people and makes them feel cared for. It will save you so much hassle in the long run.
