Rising Stars: Meet AP Bobby of East side San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to AP Bobby.

Hi AP, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I came to America from Liberia during the civil war, a time when survival meant resilience, and hope was something we had to hold onto tightly. My family fought to build a new life, and through it all, music became my lifeline. It’s been my voice when I couldnt find the words, my safe space in a world that doesn’t always give black men room to feel. For me, music is more than sound, its truth. It allows me to be vulnerable, to honor where i come from, and to tell not just my story, but the stories of my people.

This year, I went back home to Liberia. What I witnessed was strength. Beauty. Unshakable spirit. That trip reminded me why I create, it gave me purpose. It reignited a fire in me to stay bold, to keep pushing, and to never shrink myself.

When I make music, I carry my roots with me. Every beat is a form of release. Every lyric is pride. This journey is bigger than me. it’s about legacy, healing, and representing a people whose voices deserve to be heard.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been maintaining a healthy work-life balance while staying consistent with my goals. Another major struggle has been figuring out the smartest ways to invest in my brand, making sure every dollar spent is purposeful. It’s also been a learning process to take calculated risks that move things forward without causing unnecessary setbacks. These lessons haven’t always been easy, but they’ve helped me grow more disciplined, strategic, and resilient along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
AP Bobby is a recording artist and songwriter who rhythmically tells his story through a fusion of hip hop, melodic trap, R&B, and Afrobeat. Drawing from personal experience, his sound is both honest and unpredictable, with a diverse catalog that keeps listeners curious about what’s coming next.

What sets Bobby apart is his ability to blend genres while staying true to his roots, creating music that feels personal yet widely relatable. What he’s most proud of is the connection his music builds. Witnessing a crowd of people resonate with his words is the most powerful reward of his journey so far.

What are your plans for the future?
My immediate plans include releasing two music collections, each supported by creative content and interactive challenges to build momentum and connect with a wider audience. This rollout will be the foundation for building media presence not just for myself, but also for my music management company, Culture Grounds. The goal is to open doors and create visibility for the artists I’m managing back in Liberia, West Africa. Helping them access new opportunities and a global platform.
