Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Brooke Katzelnik-Lewis.
Hi Tamara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Definitely never imagined myself getting here. I first picked up a camera for church. I was helping in the youth group doing media and decided to get a camera for better quality images instead of just an iPhone. The first time I used it was for a missions trip and I fell in love.
Capturing moments and telling stories through images. It became something I enjoyed doing. From there I started taking pictures for friends and family so I figured why not try to do this more. I started my business Tamara Brooke Photography 3 years ago this summer! It’s crazy to think it’s been that long and to think about how far I’ve come.
I never would be where I am without the support I get from loved ones, clients, and friends. Now I’m starting over in a new state, which hasn’t been easy, but I have already been so blessed with so much support and new clients who have allowed me to capture some of their memories down in El Paso.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would love to say it has been easy but it hasn’t been. I was growing and had a lot of clients and was getting a lot of inquiries before moving to El Paso in November.
Starting over has been hard. There have been lots of tears, comparisons, and self-doubt. Those are just business-related, life has also thrown things my way that have made this transition difficult. There have been times when I have really wondered if I can do this.
But once I pick up that camera I remember why I do what I do that joy I get being a part of memories and capturing moments for couples, families, and different clients. I would never want to stop.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a photographer, many people start to specialize in certain areas. I have not decided to do that yet since I love capturing so many different special moments in people’s lives.
I would definitely say one of my favorites is weddings and couples though. I would say I am most proud of continuing to push through even in this season that has been so hard.
And I think that also sets me apart because I don’t just push through the hard times for myself but for those around me, for my clients. I will do whatever I can for them whether for a regular shoot, an event, or a wedding day.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Honestly my resources as those around me for life and business.
They are the ones lifting me up, encouraging me, and giving me advice. From friends and family to the photography community that I have started to find in El Paso.
