Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an original artist is always a bit of a rollercoaster. You have to be prepared to face adversity, challenges, and at times rejection. We’ve heard from radio stations that our music wasn’t “radio quality”, we’ve made it through a pandemic in which we weren’t sure when we would play live music again, we’ve had unexpected musician changes due to personal situations, and so many more obstacles we’ve found a way to work through and grow as a band from. I’ve always lived by the motto of “adapt, improvise, and overcome” and am constantly blown away by the groups willingness to do so and put in whatever effort it continues to take to reach the ultimate goal of writing and performing music for as many fans as possible. I wouldn’t change a thing in the way this band has started out. The challenges make the victories that much greater. I love writing and performing music and look forward to continuing to share this gift with others.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been writing and recording original music in some form or another for nearly 15 years now. I think one of the things that’s unique about a Ryan Ross Band record is that you’re going to hear a wide variety of musical genres and influences from song to song on the record. Country music has been a huge influence on our sound, however, I grew a huge classic rock and Motown fan. You’ll hear blues, rock, soul, and other influences as you listen to our music. We never wanted to labeled as “this kind of band or that kind of band”, We’ve always wanted to offer new music with a style that almost everyone will enjoy during a show or while driving in the car listening to the songs.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t necessarily believe in good or bad luck solely. I think luck is influenced by the amount of work that you put into what you’re trying to accomplish. I’m not going to deny that there’s something to be said about running into the right person in the right place at the right time… but I believe you make your own luck through dedication and hard work. All of the musicians in the band spend hours upon hours every week rehearsing, making social media promotions, coordinating show details and travel arrangements. We prepare for every show the same way and have been very fortunate to be blessed with some great opportunities.
