Hi Roxanne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story on how I started Nu Light Candles was when I first found Jesus in 2021. It was during the pandemic that I found Jesus and became a Christian. As I was exploring my faith I began looking for ways to give back to God and the community. I was broken and I just needed help with repairing my relationship with God. I looked into candle making as a hobby and then a lightbulb just came into my mind about starting a candle business for women that were struggling with abuse and domestic violence. Jesus put my faith back together. I could say that Nu Light Candles is a faith based business. We follow Christian values in my company. All of our candles are made with soy, which is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. We donate to the San Antonio shelter to help women that have been suffering through domestic violence. We have a variety of candle fragrances that range from florals, fruity, woodsy and aromatic. Candles are relaxing and have a healing effect to them. It’s amazing what candles can do for your mind. You can catch me at local markets and events in San Antonio selling our candles. Customers find our candles to be long-lasting, relaxing with a strong fragrance that is highly satisfying to them. Today, we are always expanding our candle collections to appeal to our customers. It’s truly a blessing that we here today serving everyone. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I recently got laid off from my full-time job in May, so money was a little tight. However, after re-focusing my priorities and relying on God and selling more at local pop ups and markets, God has pulled me through the rough patches and money hasn’t been a problem. I also fractured my left foot in the middle of June, so production and selling at markets had to be temporarily halted. Right now I’m healing, so I will be making a full recovery soon. I just keep going. It’s something about a business owner that you have to do in life.

Hi I’m Roxanne Reyes and I’m the Owner and Operator of the business. I wear multiple hats, such as Owner, Operations, Marketing, Accounting and Finance. I specialize in candle making that focuses on faith, healing and self-care.

What are you most proud of brand wise?
We are proud of our faith and providing hope and healing to women. We enjoy providing candles that customers love and that’s why I do this everyday.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was when I visited my grandparents and my grandpa always opened his arms and gave me a big hug. It was always a memory I cherished because he was really proud of his grandchildren and I just loved that part of my life when I was a kid. It made feel loved and that I could do anything in life. He always made me feel extra special.
