Meet Marivel of Empatia Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marivel.

Hi Marivel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been passionate about supporting children, teens, and families in navigating life’s challenges. My journey into counseling has always been guided by the belief that therapy with heart and healing with empathy can make a lasting difference. I began my career as a teacher and then school counselor, working closely with children. I realized I wanted to create a space where emotional growth, resilience, and understanding could be nurtured in a truly compassionate way.

This vision led me to start Empatia Counseling, a practice dedicated not only to supporting clients in navigating anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and life transitions, but also to growing our impact within the community. As our practice expands, we are able to reach more children, teens, and families, providing meaningful support where it is most needed and promoting emotional well-being across our community.

At Empatia Counseling, we believe in small, intentional steps toward healing, growth, and resilience, guided by empathy, understanding, and a commitment to creating lasting positive change.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building Empatia Counseling hasn’t always been easy. Balancing the growth of the practice, meeting the needs of our community, and prioritizing my own family has taken effort and learning along the way. There were moments of doubt and uncertainty, but each challenge has reinforced my mission: to make a real difference for children, teens, and adults while keeping family at the center of everything I do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

At Empatia Counseling, our services are personalized, collaborative, and rooted in empathy. Whether it’s learning coping strategies, managing school stress, or navigating life changes, we are dedicated to helping our clients and their families thrive.

How do you think about luck?
Luck has certainly played a role in my journey, though I see it more as a combination of timing, opportunity, and preparation. I’ve been fortunate to meet mentors, colleagues, and clients who have inspired and challenged me along the way, and I’ve been incredibly grateful for the support of my family, who have encouraged me through both the highs and lows. There have also been unexpected challenges—moments that felt like bad luck at the time—but those experiences taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of staying grounded in my mission.

In building Empatia Counseling, luck has been part of the equation, but it’s the consistent effort, family support, commitment to empathy, and focus on creating a compassionate space for clients that have truly shaped the practice. Each “lucky” connection or opportunity has reinforced that when preparation meets intention, and when you have the support of those who believe in you, meaningful impact is possible for the community we serve.
