Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Escobar.
Luis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to founding VenturePoint didn’t start in a boardroom; it started with a profound need for security and a fresh start. I came to San Antonio from Mexico, leaving behind a life that had been upended by the trauma of a kidnapping. That experience changed my entire perspective on what it means to feel “at home” and “secure.” When I arrived in the United States, I wasn’t just looking for a business opportunity—I was looking for a community where I could rebuild.
I realized that many entrepreneurs and professionals were facing their own kind of “isolation,” whether they were working from a lonely home office or trying to navigate the complexities of a new city. I wanted to create a place that felt like more than four walls and a desk. I wanted to build a “Sanctuary for Productivity”—a professional environment where entrepreneurs could feel supported, safe, and connected.
VenturePoint began as a way to provide that foundation. I took the lessons of resilience I learned from my past and poured them into the business. We started with the vision of a “Curiosity Environment”—a space designed for high-level strategic networking and professional growth.
Today, we support over 630 members across multiple locations. We’ve evolved into a comprehensive hub, offering Digital Mail for the modern mobile professional and Executive Conference Rooms for the city’s decision-makers. My journey from Mexico to San Antonio taught me that while you can’t always control your circumstances, you can build an environment that empowers you to overcome them. That is the heartbeat of VenturePoint: providing the space and the community for others to write their own success stories.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but a smooth road. To be an immigrant is to start a race several miles behind the starting line. Coming from Mexico with a high-level background but facing a complete culture and language barrier was a massive mountain to climb. I carried the weight of a dual responsibility: building a viable enterprise while ensuring my family was safely integrated and supported in a brand-new country.
The “road” was hit by three major earthquakes:
First, the financial timing. Starting a business under these circumstances was difficult enough, but the 2008 financial crisis wiped out the capital I had brought with me. I essentially had to build VenturePoint from zero, with no safety net.
Second, the personal health crisis. In 2009, I faced total kidney failure. For four years, I managed the business while undergoing treatment, finally receiving a life-saving transplant in 2013. Operating a growing company while fighting for your health requires a level of discipline that most people never have to tap into.
Third, the mindset shift. There is a profound difference between building a business to survive and building a business to scale. In those early years, it was about survival—keeping the lights on and the family fed. But my perspective shifted; I realized that I wasn’t just building a workspace, I was building a platform for others to overcome their own challenges.
Despite the lack of initial capital and the physical tolls, I have never been bored. Every obstacle was a lesson that we integrated into the VenturePoint philosophy. Today, when a member walks in and tells me they are struggling to grow their business, I don’t just sympathize—I empathize. I know what it’s like to build something out of nothing, and that fire is what drives our goal to reach 700 members by 2026. We aren’t just selling office space; we are selling the resilience required to succeed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am an engineer and a lifelong student of business growth. My work is the intersection of technology, strategy, and human connection. I hold a Bachelor’s in EET, an MBA, and a Master’s in Marketing, along with a certification in AI. Currently, I am embarking on my PhD, focusing my thesis on the Human CORE (CICI)—a framework that explores how human-centric environments drive innovation and collaboration.
At VenturePoint, I specialize in building “Curiosity Environments.” We don’t just rent offices; we engineer spaces where productivity and professional credibility can flourish.
What I am most proud of:
In an industry where many coworking spaces struggle to remain viable, I am incredibly proud that VenturePoint is the only local coworking brand in San Antonio that is both consistently profitable and has successfully scaled to five locations. We have built a model that works because it is rooted in reality and local needs, not just venture capital trends.
What sets us apart:
What sets us apart isn’t a “secret sauce”—it’s a different attitude. We are a family-owned business, but we operate with a “Wealth for Everyone” philosophy. We are not a greedy company; we are a community company. We believe that when VenturePoint grows, everyone involved should build wealth—our employees, our members, our suppliers, and the city of San Antonio.
We are known for being the most reliable partner for a business’s physical presence. Whether a member needs a high-tech Digital Mail setup to run their business from their phone, or a corporate team needs a high-stakes Conference Room to close a deal, they know we are here to stay. We aren’t just building a business to survive; we are building a legacy of entrepreneurship in San Antonio.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most:
To me, San Antonio is the best city in the world to raise a family. I often call it a “Big Little Town” because it offers all the infrastructure, amenities, and opportunities of a major metropolis, yet it retains a warmth and soul that you usually only find in small communities. Coming from Mexico, I view this city with a different lens. I see the incredible roads, the reliable infrastructure, and the safety we enjoy here. But more than the physical things, it is a community where you can still lead with trust. It is a place where “your word” still matters, and that is a rare and beautiful thing for a city of this size.
What I like least:
If I have one frustration, it’s that the city is growing physically and numerically at an incredible rate, but the “attitude of progress” isn’t always moving at the same pace. Sometimes, we stay stuck in old ways of doing business when the world is moving toward high-tech, high-flexibility, and global competition.
At VenturePoint, we are trying to bridge that gap. We want to help San Antonio’s business culture catch up to its growth. We provide the modern tools—like AI integration, digital mail, and flexible corporate workspaces—so that our local entrepreneurs don’t just “survive” in a growing city, but actually lead the charge into the future. We have the infrastructure; now we just need to match it with a bold, progressive mindset.
