Meet Lucie Tatum of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucie Tatum.

Hi Lucie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started after I quit my nursing job of 17 years on Halloween 2021. I was burnt out on both ends, fatigued, had two attempts during that time, and was extremely unhappy with my life. More than anything, I felt completely lost.
Then, on Valentine’s Day 2022, I started school to become a Certified Life Coach and NLP Practitioner with the iNLPcenter. At first, I did it because Life Coaching genuinely intrigued me, based on what I had researched. Over the last four years, however, it became so much more than that.
I practiced coaching on myself every single day, using the frameworks and tools I absorbed from various mentors, along with everything I learned throughout the course. I was fire and flames about moving forward with my life. Even my therapist, whom I had been seeing weekly for six months, told me she had observed a significant shift in my perspective, beliefs, and identity while I was studying.
I was hooked and decided to start my international online coaching business. I was born and raised in Germany but now live in the United States as a military spouse or more accurately now, a veteran spouse which naturally led me to working with people from different countries and backgrounds.
Today, I coach people from all over the world, primarily through word of mouth. As of 2026, I’m also working with a coaching platform, supporting clients with ADHD and autism. It’s incredibly fulfilling because I get to help people navigate everyday challenges in their careers and relationships, while watching them build confidence, overcome obstacles, and create lives that feel more authentic to them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For about six months, I thought everything was going smoothly. I started with fire and flames, trailblazing my way forward without much structure or knowledge of how to sustainably run a coaching business. Before I knew it, I burned out… again.
That cycle or rather, that pattern continued for another three years. I would start with enthusiasm and stop with exhaustion.
Then, over the last 18+ months, I completely stepped away from being present on social media after a significant event on Christmas 2024 changed my life forever. Everything that had been simmering beneath the surface finally came up: extreme fatigue, burnout, people-pleasing, an identity crisis, and so much more. I couldn’t ignore it any longer.
It affected every area of my life, my marriage, my family, my friendships, and even my coaching. I felt like I wasn’t showing up as my best self. My mind felt constantly overwhelmed, and I worried that I wasn’t fully present during my coaching sessions. To my surprise, however, my clients had a completely different experience of me than I had of myself. The testimonials kept coming in, and they were nothing short of transformational. My clients were experiencing meaningful breakthroughs, while I was focused on everything I thought I was doing wrong.
That became another major aha moment for me. It showed me just how deeply perfectionism and being my own worst critic had continued to distort my perspective. I realized that the standards I was holding myself to were far harsher than the experience my clients were actually having.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Certified Life Coach and Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I specialize in Neurodivergent Coaching, supporting clients in navigating challenges related to their careers, relationships, and personal growth.
What I’m most proud of is my emotionally attuned approach to coaching. I bring empathy, support, and flexibility into every session, adapting my coaching style to meet each client where they are. What sets me apart is the combination of my professional background in nursing, my experience as a military spouse who has moved every three years, and my exposure to different cultures, perspectives, and beliefs. These experiences have shaped the way I connect with people and allow me to create a safe, understanding, and judgment-free space for my clients.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see the life coaching industry becoming more prominent and accessible over the next 5–10 years. More people are recognizing that seeking professional support is not a sign of weakness, but a natural part of personal growth, achieving goals, and creating the life they desire. I also believe we will continue to see a shift toward greater professionalism and accountability within the industry. As coaching becomes more recognized, clients are becoming more intentional about choosing coaches who have invested in their education, understand ethical coaching practices, and use proven frameworks and tools to support meaningful transformation. I also believe the future of coaching lies in combining professional training with authenticity, self-awareness, and coaches who are committed to continuously growing alongside the people they serve.
