Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Zamora.
Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey to becoming a media production professional and starting my own video and photography business began in my early childhood. Video and photography have been integral parts of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child, I enjoyed filming skits with my cousins and friends and I was the student at school who always had a camera, capturing photos at athletic events, school dances, and for the yearbook. By high school, I was certain that I wanted to turn this passion into my career.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Media Production from the University of Houston in 2016, I returned to San Antonio, where I kickstarted my career at a local church, managing their media department. A couple of years later, I became the first in-house content creator at Santikos Entertainment. Over the past seven years with Santikos, I honed my craft and wanted to seek more opportunities for growth in my career. This desire led me to start my own business, Lisa’s Productions.
Starting my own business has opened up new opportunities, challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, and allowed me to grow in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Throughout this journey, I’ve met many like-minded creatives and worked on exciting projects for new clients, turning visions into reality.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting my own business hasn’t exactly been a smooth journey. Luckily, I have marketing experience and a strong, diverse portfolio to showcase, but I’ve had to learn a lot about the business side of things. I find myself spending a lot of time on administrative work, which takes away from my time to be creative. Additionally, since this is a very saturated field, I’ve had to be strategic in finding ways to stand out. It’s been a lot to manage, but I am a determined person, so I’ve been giving it my all, even if it means sacrificing my evenings and weekends. I’m grateful for the support of my family and friends throughout this journey.
