Meet Kolbie Squires of Family Foundations Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kolbie Squires.

Hi Kolbie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a parent coach with a master’s degree in Professional Counseling, focusing on Marriage and Family Therapy, from Texas State University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas A&M University. During my undergraduate studies, I was a collegiate tennis player and participated in a Semester at Sea study abroad program, traveling to 13 countries by ship. I’ve also lived abroad for 7 years and moved countless times as a child. I have a unique lived experience that allows me to understand the challenges of living in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.

With nearly a decade of experience as a therapeutic and educational consultant, I dedicated my career to providing consultation and support while helping parents navigate challenges in their parenting journey. I’ve assisted families in finding the appropriate schools and programs that serve and support each family’s foundations while supporting their children’s growth and success. My clinical background includes work in marriage and individual counseling, Child Protective Services’ emergency shelter, and a state hospital setting — providing me with a deep understanding of families in all walks of life. Additionally, I have traveled nationally to tour available educational and therapeutic programming for children and teens — encompassing mental health facilities, academic boarding schools, therapeutic programs, and outdoor therapeutic programs.

I live with her husband, Tim, and our two children, Davie and Fielding. When I’m not doing family coaching or supporting families, I love baking, crafting with my kids, playing tennis, and traveling as much as possible. I’m passionate about building strong family foundations and creating systems that work for each, unique family and their values.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As anything in life, the road to starting Family Foundations Coaching was not smooth; however, every obstacle, challenge and life milestone led me to this calling. There were several moments in my career that challenged me; yet looking back, it led me to Family Foundations Coaching. From studying abroad and transferring to Texas A&M to complete my undergraduate degree to landing my first professional role where I discovered the therapeutic programming industry to completing my Master’s degree in counseling to the delay in receiving my license from the state of Texas that led me back to the world of therapeutic and educational consulting – Each of these moments sent me down a path within the world of mental health but towards a path of creating something for myself. After becoming a mom of 2, all of my focus, motivation and drive shifted towards my family while my children were small. Today, I feel the call to be the best mother I can be, chase me dreams and serve families who want to show up to be the best they can be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Family Foundations Coaching is a parent coaching service.

How I help: Create a clear, customized home plan for your family. Turn recommendations into real-life, daily action. Build consistent routines, structure and follow through. Coach parents in real time through challenges as they happen. Align everyone involved (parents, caregivers, professionals).

Who I support: Overwhelmed, stuck families. Parents of kids 5+ to young adults. Challenging behaviors or mental health struggles. Struggling with consistency, follow through and routines. Families in transitions. Parents ready for real, practical change.

Common challenges I work with: Inconsistent parenting. Power struggles, meltdowns, or not listening. Daily routine breakdowns. New mental health or learning diagnoses. Transition home after treatment. Stalled therapeutic progress. Alternative to inpatient care.

What you can expect: Strategic parenting home plan, home team creation, parent coaching workbook with accompanying individual parent workshops, real-time parent coaching and support, and progress monitoring with updates to involved professionals.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I hope that Family Foundations Coaching continues to grow and serve families and parents who are motivated to do things differently and sets their children up to be as happy and healthy, as possible.

While parent coaching is certainly for parents who are struggling to parent their children or struggling with mental health issues, I believe that all parents would benefit from parent coaching. There is no roadmap or manual that comes when you have a child; however, having a parent coach offers parents support, knowledge, and confidence in raising a happy, healthy family.
