Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Henson.
Hi Kayla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I worked in healthcare for 13 years. I worked in several roles before finding out what truly made me happy. I loved working in health care and getting the opportunity to help others.
I just didn’t realize just how much I was able to help them until I started working in the insurance side of things. I started out as a sales assistant in DFW. Shortly after I started there, I volunteered to help out with our agents in our other offices in Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Houston.
Meeting all of the agents and different sales leaders is what made me truly fall in love with this profession. They showed me what it was like to truly help someone else and go to bat for someone you never met to make sure they were receiving the care they deserved.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, starting as a new agent and trying to build your book of business is hard. It is hard to get people to trust that you are truly trying to help them and trust that you have their best interest at heart.
A lot of times you hear about all of the success stories of some of these amazing agents but no one truly tells you just how hard it can be.
Don’t get me wrong it’s a very rewarding career when you get the chance to help someone but on the days in-between trying to build your book of business, no one tells you how many times you’ll get hung up on or how rude some people can be when you’re just trying to help or the days you want to cry and give up.
But then you get that one call where you get to change someone’s life or help prevent them from getting in debt by providing them with the proper coverage they needed.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an insurance agent with HealthMarkets.
I specialize in under 65 and Medicare for medical, dental, vision, supplemental coverage, life, and small business insurance. I work with all of the top carriers in the state such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, United HealthCare, Humana and many more.
What sets me apart? I have been very dedicated and vested in my clients since our first conversation. I listen to all of their needs and want so that I can tailor their plans to best fit their needs as well as their budget. I make sure that I am available to my clients and make sure that in the event that something happens or they have questions, they have my personal number to reach me at any time.
I have no issues going to bat for my clients when it comes to their insurance. It’s my job to make sure they have what they need so they don’t have to worry about going to the doctor or if they can afford it.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I honestly see our industry continue to grow and thrive. Just like health care, there will always be a need for health insurance.
