Hi Joseph, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Growler Exchange started 9 years ago with a dream that my dad and I had to open a craft beer bar. My dad loved craft beer and passed this love for craft beer on to me, we saw a need for this in San Antonio and took a leap. My parents and I invested in this venture together my parents used part of their retirement and I invested money I saved while working in the Oil & Gas industry. We opened our first location in 2016 and buckled up for the ride. It was quite a challenge as we had no idea what we got ourselves into as this was not a familiar industry to us. With the help of our great team, especially Tim, we have made it close to a decade in business. Long night and lots of learning we eventually built a community of beer drinkers who felt like family and in 2023 we opened our second location.
We got to where we are today by treating our team with respect continuing to evolve as a business and always keeping the costumer at our forefront. You walk into our bar and you walk into a community of old friends and that’s what we dreamt that this place could be!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road and small business are two words that don’t really come to mind when thinking about the journey we’ve been on. Opening this place from the ground up was challenging we leaned some hard but valuable lessons. Then COVID really challenged us to think outside the box we had to pivot and rethink how our business would survive this. It’s almost like when you get through one challenge and you think to yourself ok we know what we are doing and then something else comes at you. Just before we opened our new location we lost my father very suddenly and this really challenged us emotionally and financially.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always full of energy and constantly on the move. I naturally gravitated toward sports and physical activities, so my parents kept me involved in a variety of extracurriculars like baseball, gymnastics, and Kung Fu. It was a great way to channel my energy and helped me develop discipline, teamwork, and a strong work ethic from a young age.
