Meet Jonathan Amezquita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Amezquita.

Hi Jonathan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started taking pictures right before I moved to Australia. It was a way to document the opportunities I got to experience at such a young age. As well as helping me slow down and truly take in what I was trying to capture.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My belief is that it will be whatever you make of it. When you truly enjoy something the struggles of the learning process become enjoyable. It’s all a part of the journey and growth. That being said it has been a smooth road, but I won’t allow it to be anything other than such.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Photography is what I do and I’ll capture just about anything that makes me feel something.

Therefore specializing in one particular setting for me this early on would put a damper on my growth. Once I do find that specific scene or setting that I just absolutely fall in love with though will be it. For now, jack of all trades, master of none. I’m definitely most proud of my Australia photos. The scenery there made it impossible to screw up. Absolutely breathtaking.

What separates me from others… I have a background in various amount of sports. I am able to get the action shots and what I believe the people that actually have played the sport want to feel. It helps the viewer really get into the pictures when they can feel the image. Whenever you have people that don’t know said sport in awe just as much as a player you know it was it.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Have as much fun with it as you can. Make a lot of mistakes and don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. That’s where the real greatness happens. Enjoy the journey and remember everyone starts somewhere, but very few stay consistent.

I wish I knew that perfection is impossible. There’s always going to be something out of place or imperfect in your own eyes. Don’t dwell on it and keep going. Let it be the growth for the next chapter and enjoy the learning process.
