Meet Jeanne Culver of Culver Public Relations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanne Culver.

Hi Jeanne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the founder and CEO of Culver Public Relations. We are a full-service boutique public relations, social media, event management, and content creation agency with offices in San Antonio and Dallas and working with clients throughout the US.

I wanted to be in communications and PR since high school. I was lucky to be invited into a program in high school where I was matched with a professional in the career I was interested in. For an entire semester, I spent full school days with the Vice President of Communications for the Dallas Independent School District.

I was given a wide range of responsibilities and learned a lot about crisis communications, pitching events, scheduling interviews, and building relationships with journalists. After that semester, I was dedicated to a career in Public Relations.

After graduating from Trinity University in San Antonio, my first job was as the editor of a weekly financial newsletter in California which taught me to be very precise with details, information, and deadlines. It was critical that all of the information I included in the newsletter was accurate as one did not want to make mistakes reporting anything about investments to subscribers who were paying a lot of money to read the newsletter.

I loved California, but moved back home to Texas and was the marketing director for a commercial real estate company where I learned all the different areas of marketing, how to negotiate contracts, and hire and manage a marketing department. I had our second daughter and looking back, was a pioneer in working from home and taking a child to work.

I told the president of the company that I was having childcare difficulties and it was going to be a week or two more before I returned to the office. I asked if I could work from home and the next day a computer was delivered to my house. When I did go back to the office it was on a flexible schedule with me walking in with our infant daughter in a stroller who spent the day with me in my office.

I left commercial real estate and after a few years as an active community volunteer, I reached out to my contacts in the PR field and soon began freelancing for agencies. Not too long after I began freelancing, it became full time and I loved the variety of clients.

I decided I wanted to work directly with clients, took a big leap of faith, and opened Culver Public Relations without any accounts.  Soon I had my first account and have added wonderful new team members and accounts since that first scary month.

It was my dream to have my own agency, have a family, and support other women in their careers. I believe that everything wonderful starts with a dream. And you back it up with a lot of work.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have been very fortunate in that things have been smooth for my business most of the time. I also believe a lot of hard work is tied with luck.

The pandemic was a huge unexpected bump but we added new accounts during that year that leveled out the accounts that paused for a while. I credit our team and their dedication to each other during that time.

We worked a lot of hours during many weeks of 2020 and no one complained. We also all understood that at times we needed to take breaks from work and the isolation during lockdown for our mental health and we filled in for each other.

I’ve approached the business as I try to approach my personal life with a healthy dose of optimism and gratitude.

When challenges arrive, and they will, I work hard to view them as a new opportunity.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Culver Public Relations?
Culver Public Relations is a full-service public relations and social media agency known for attention to detail, strong results, proactive tactics, new and creative ideas, protecting our clients’ brands, and exceptional organization.

We are diplomatic, professional, and always upbeat.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe integrity and striving to over-deliver what you promise are very important. Building authentic relationships, truly loving what you do, and wanting to create success for your clients is also essential to my agency.

My parents were business owners and they taught me to work harder than everyone else around me. That’s proven to be great advice.
