Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Allen.
Hi Janet, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Meet Janet Allen, the Creative Force Behind Freshly Baked
My name is Janet Allen, and I’m the founder of Freshly Baked — a private chef, artisanal baker, wife, and proud mom of four. I’ve been cooking and baking for over a decade, and while I didn’t set out to become a chef, I followed my passion and never looked back.
I’m completely self-taught in the kitchen, but I hold a Bachelor’s degree in both Kinesiology and Dietetics & Nutrition. I was gifted a full culinary book set early on, and I’ve been studying and perfecting my craft ever since. Learning is an endless part of this journey — and one I genuinely love.
My culinary story started simply: making the foods I craved and sharing them with family and friends. Word got out, plates started selling, and before I knew it, I had a business. That spark grew into Freshly Baked — a brand that blends comfort, flavor, creativity, and love into every bite.
As a cannamom, I also offer hemp-infused treats and dishes for adults who turn to plant medicine. Hemp plays a big role in my life, helping me manage my ADHD and stay grounded through the chaos of motherhood and business. While not everything I create is infused, I fully support the use of hemp and proudly serve a community that feels the same.
Whether it’s custom cakes, cookies, edibles, homemade pasta, or fresh-baked bread, I make it from scratch with care. My menu is always evolving, and there’s not much I won’t try to learn and master. I also host elevated events that bring cannabis connoisseurs and food lovers together for unique dining experiences — from infused five-course meals to sweet treats and handcrafted mocktails.
Food is more than just a job for me. It’s an art form, a love language, and a way to build community. I believe good food and good people are the heart of any strong village. Whether someone’s eating to nourish or indulge, I want them to feel cared for — and to leave with a clean plate and a smile.
One day, I’ll open a space where the community can gather, connect, and enjoy the full Freshly Baked experience. Until then, I’ll keep showing up with love, flavor, and purpose — because this is the work that fulfills me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, one of the biggest challenges in this journey has been balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship. As a mom of four, managing a household while also running a business on my own comes with a heavy mental load. I’m constantly navigating the demands of parenting — school schedules, meals, emotional support — while also handling every layer of my business: fulfilling orders, responding to inquiries, marketing, prepping for events, and staying creative in the kitchen.
My husband works incredibly hard, holding down two jobs, which gives me the space to focus on Freshly Baked. But being the primary caregiver and the parent who’s always on call means that some days, I’m pulled in a dozen directions. It’s not always easy to shift gears from mom-mode to chef-mode, especially when both require your full heart and attention.
There are moments of guilt, exhaustion, and doubt — wondering if I’m doing enough for my kids, my business, or myself. But those moments are also where I’ve found the most growth. I’ve learned to build structure, set boundaries, ask for help, and take pride in the small wins along the way. Every hurdle I’ve overcome has only deepened my drive and my purpose.
At the end of the day, I do this for my family and for the community I serve. The joy on someone’s face after trying my food, or hearing that one of my infused treats helped them feel better — that’s the kind of fulfillment that keeps me going.
Motherhood and entrepreneurship aren’t separate lanes — they’re part of the same journey. And while the road isn’t always easy, I’ve learned how to build something beautiful right in the middle of the chaos.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Freshly Baked is more than just a baking — it’s an experience rooted in flavor, intention, and community. I’m a private chef and artisan baker specializing in handmade goods that range from custom cakes and cookies to infused treats, fresh breads, savory dishes, and elevated meals. Everything I create is made from scratch with love, using high-quality ingredients and a whole lot of soul.
What truly sets Freshly Baked apart is the way I combine culinary artistry with holistic living. I don’t just feed people — I nourish them. I offer both traditional and hemp-infused options to support those who choose plant medicine as part of their wellness journey. As a cannamom, I proudly cater to others in the hemp and cannabis space with thoughtfully dosed edibles and upscale infused experiences.
Whether it’s a beautifully crafted birthday cake, a comforting homemade loaf of bread, or a five-course infused dinner, my goal is always the same: to bring people joy through food. I’m proud to say that my brand has earned a reputation for quality, creativity, and care. It’s not just about how the food tastes (though that’s important!) — it’s also about how it makes you feel.
Freshly Baked is a reflection of my life, my culture, my love for feeding people, and my belief in the power of community. I want readers to know that this brand was built with passion, persistence, and a whole lot of heart — and whether you’re indulging in something sweet or exploring infused offerings for wellness, you’re always in good hands
