Meet Isela Grant of Northwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isela Grant.

Hi Isela; we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been creative growing up. In 2019, I gave birth to our daughter, and my husband was away for Basic Training for the Air Force. I became a stay-at-home since then and throughout some of the pandemic. An ad honestly popped up for Ogle here in town. I thought, “eh, what’s there to lose to put my contact info in?” I interviewed with the school and was planning to start two weeks later. I initially went into it wanting to be a lash tech, and shortly after learning all things hair coloring, I fell in love! Throughout school, I was in touch with Thrisha-who I currently assist. She’s taught me so much with color applications, differences in techniques, etc. I had my son in 2022, and after a few months of being home, I reached out to see if she was still interested in having an assistant, and here we are.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
It hasn’t been super hard, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing. During school, I thought I was being taught everything I needed to know, which was true to an extent. I was taught everything to pass my state board. But after getting behind the chair, I quickly learned that there was so much more to learn. Many more techniques how to formulate with different color lines; haircutting isn’t one fits. The list could go on! The learning curve was real.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an assistant hairstylist passionate about color, blonding, vivids, and extensions. I’m perfecting my crafts and loving it! I’m proud of how far I’ve come within the last 10 months of being behind the chair. I’m excited about the growth and thankful for everyone who has sat in my chair and supported me.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Optimism-and with that, I will continue to succeed.
