Meet Ian Cheadle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Cheadle.

Hi Ian, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After many years working in the machining industry, I was feeling burned out. In 2013 I was given the opportunity to manage a complete residential rehab in Dayton, Ohio. Much of my knowledge from machining easily carried over into carpentry and I realized then, that my career path was in construction. I had a lot of fun doing residential construction but often felt overwhelmed managing subcontractors and I recognized how much I enjoyed working for myself and by myself. Right away, wood floors were a passion of mine. It has such a natural beauty. I became fascinated with different wood grains, colors, textures, and saw cuts. Focusing solely on wood floor construction was a no brainer. Once I had my niche, I quickly earned a reputation for myself. The busier I got in Dayton, the more I realized I wanted to be somewhere else. Texas was the obvious choice. The excitement and growth that Texas is experiencing drew me to it. My family and I moved to New Braunfels in August 2021 and it has been a ride. Because of Texas’ central location, I have been able to travel around the country to do wood floors as well as create beautiful floors in Texas homes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been filled with potholes. Managing employees and sub-contractors was a challenge for me that I ultimately decided I was no longer going to do. Timing out projects can be a struggle at times and I spend many weekends away from my family trying to meet a client’s deadline. Moving the business from one state to another was/is a struggle. I left Dayton with a solid reputation and enough confidence to fill the state of Texas, only to get here a become humbled. I have had to start my business from scratch and it has taken some time to market myself and to earn the confidence of Texans.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I install, sand and finish hardwood floors and I specialize in custom site finished hardwood flooring. I’m really proud of the floors that I have created. Nothing can beat the natural beauty that a wood floor can bring to a space. I am able to build something with my bare hands that is not only beautiful, but functional AND adds value to my client’s home. I do my part to stay up to date with the latest and best technology within the industry and I think my passion and eagerness to learn sets me apart from others.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m not much of a surprising person. I am always upfront about my struggles and my achievements. Some people might not know that I drive a rainbow van that I blast punk rock music in.
