Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Wallis.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Growing up, I always wanted to be a nurse. I was always fascinated with the medical field and wanted to help others. I graduated from UT Health Science Center San Antonio in 2016 with my BSN and started working as a registered nurse at a local hospital shortly after. A few years later, I got married and had our first baby. Becoming a mom changed my perspective on many things, including my family and work life. I had a lot of guilt leaving my baby for 12+ hours a day, sometimes not even seeing her on the days I worked, missing holidays, and having family time on the weekends. I decided to leave nursing to find something that had a better balance to where I could be home with her more. 2 years later, we had our second baby, and again, I just had this calling to be home with them more. I decided to become a stay-at-home mom. As a SAHM, the days can become very boring and repetitive. I had thought about starting a side business to provide income and a creative outlet. Every mom knows there are not enough hours in a day, and when I’m short on time, my outfits are the last thing I put time into. I became frustrated with wearing the same t-shirts that had no purpose. That’s when I decided to make cute but simplistic apparel that would make for easy outfits that can be dressed up or down in very little time.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I haven’t had any major hiccups. The most challenging thing was starting out and not knowing how to create a website from scratch, charge for shipping, where to get my products, and the legalities of it all. I learned much of it as it came up, which was stressful at times, wondering if I was going in the right direction.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Like I said before, I wanted to create shirts that could be put together in an outfit quickly. I wanted high-quality, comfortable shirts that fit well for a mom on the go and could be dressed up or down, depending on your day. For example, one of my tees could be worn to run some errands with a pair of leggings and then dressed up a bit the same day with jeans and a jacket or cardigan. I am most proud of my designs. They are all created by me! They are then professionally printed into a screen print, more durable than vinyl, and pressed with a commercial-grade heat press. Along with tees, I have also started to offer sweatshirts and children’s tees and am working on some new designs and products that will be coming in the new year.
Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
Social media! When I first started, I got valuable information from accounts that offered similar products. So far, everyone has been so helpful and will provide advice whenever you need it. I had my first market a few weeks ago and felt so much more prepared to go into it after asking the social media community for any tips and tricks they had.
