Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Gonzalez.
Hi Elizabeth, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m co-owner of Friendly Pop-up Market. Roy and I started this market with the goal of creating a “Friendly” atmosphere for small businesses and entrepreneurs to reach their full potential. I took him to a market back in 2021 and we instantly knew this was something we wanted to do.
Growing up in San Antonio, I always enjoyed family trips to the Flea Market on the weekends. Seeing all of the items on display and the excitement of buying something new was and still is a thrill for me.
I’m proud to be a woman small business owner. Managing Friendly Pop-up Market has been very rewarding on a personal and professional level. I’m enjoying the journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We’ve hosted markets all over the state of Texas… from San Antonio to Amarillo. We are thankful to have retail real estate partners who have been a great help to us in our journey. Those partnerships have truly been a blessing, by allowing us to host markets at some amazing places across the state. The road has been smooth.
The challenge is trying to create events that put vendors in the best possible situation for success. We partner with some amazing artisans and business owners, and we work hard to do all that we can to create customer engagement for them. We love stories of business owners who started out as market vendors, who have now opened brick and mortar locations and are thriving in business. Those moments remind us of why we do what we do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Friendly Pop-up Market?
It has been an amazing 5 years. We’ve hosted events at church for a 4th of July celebration. We’ve participated in a Heros Festival for the San Antonio Veterans. This year we have partnered with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for their Family Picnic. These are the types of events that we’re really proud of. We love being part of the local community.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
There is so much to love about San Antonio. The food, the culture, the history… it all contributes to making our city a unique place.
