Meet Dr. Sidra Iqbal of Rio dental

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sidra Iqbal.

Hi Dr. Iqbal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was a general dentist back home in India.

I come from a family deeply rooted in medicine, where becoming a physician was the expected path. Dentistry was never the “obvious” choice for me—but something about it felt right. I trusted that instinct, and I chose dentistry… not knowing then that I would fall completely in love with it and never regret that decision for a single day.

After graduating, I became a partner in a successful private practice. Life looked perfect on paper. But deep down, I knew I was meant for something bigger. So I made a bold decision—to move to the United States.

That path didn’t start the way I imagined. My visa was denied.

Instead of giving up, I pivoted. I applied for a Master’s in Public Health and Health Administration in Canada—and got in. While studying in Vancouver, I worked multiple jobs just to survive—waitressing at an Indian restaurant and working late-night shifts at Denny’s. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was building something inside me: resilience.

And through it all, I never gave up on dentistry.

I studied, stayed focused, passed my national boards, and applied to dental schools in the U.S. When I got accepted into Loma Linda University’s International Dental Program, I said yes without hesitation. That decision changed my life.

But success came with loneliness.

I had no family here. No safety net. And in that vulnerable space, I made a decision that would become one of the hardest lessons of my life—I agreed to an arranged marriage, believing it would give me stability and support.

It didn’t.

What looked perfect on paper turned into an abusive marriage—emotionally and physically. Two months into the marriage, I was pregnant, in dental school full-time, working long hours, and just trying to survive each day.

At 40 weeks pregnant, I showed up for my WREB licensing exam.

People told me not to. They warned me of risks. But I knew I didn’t have the luxury of waiting. I had to pass. I had to build a future for myself and my daughter.

And I did.

Shortly after graduation, I moved to Texas with my one-month-old baby. I took the highest-paying job I could find as a new graduate because survival was not optional. I moved to a small town—Wichita Falls—far from everything I knew, but I did what I had to do.

I eventually made the hardest decision—to leave my marriage.

I refused to let my daughter grow up thinking abuse was acceptable. So I became a single mother, working six days a week, raising an infant alone, with no family, no support, and no backup plan.

Just determination.

Then came 2020. COVID hit. I lost my job. And at the same time, I made another difficult choice—I filed for divorce, despite cultural pressures and opposition.

That’s when life shifted.

I received a call from San Antonio—a doctor who needed help rebuilding her practice after COVID. She didn’t just offer me a job—she gave me a home. For a year, my daughter and I lived in her guest house. For the first time in a long time, I felt supported. I felt seen. I felt hopeful again.

And during this journey, I met the man who would change everything.

My husband today is everything I once hoped for in a partner—supportive, present, kind, and deeply committed. He embraced my daughter as his own and became the partner I deserved. Looking back, I truly believe I had to go through everything I did to find him.

From there, life accelerated.

I bought my first dental practice as a single mom with a two-year-old. It was scary—but I trusted myself. Then came the second. Then the third.

I remarried. I had another beautiful child. Today, my husband and I run our businesses together. He stands beside me in every sense of the word, supporting not just our family—but my vision.

And that vision is bigger than dentistry.

Yes, I build practices. Yes, I create opportunities. But more importantly, I want to empower women—to show them that no matter how hard life gets, no matter how many doors close, you can rebuild.

You can rise.

You can create the life you once thought was impossible.

Because I did.

Today, I am the proud owner of multiple dental practices- Rio Dental with a vision for “365 dental care days “- access and concierge dental care for everyone. Iam building not just businesses but opportunities—for myself, my team, and my community. Beyond clinical dentistry, I use my voice and platform to empower women to believe in their potential, take bold steps, and create lives on their own terms. I am also the founder of CE Connex, a platform designed to revolutionize continuing education in dentistry—simplifying how dentists discover, choose, and organize their CE, while elevating it into a more curated, lifestyle-driven experience. Through my Balanced Crown Foundation, I am committed to giving back by providing free dental care annually to those in need, because I believe everyone deserves the confidence of a healthy smile. Everything I build today reflects not just success—but purpose, impact, and the desire to lift others as I rise.

didn’t have the perfect plan.
I didn’t have the perfect support system.

But I had a decision—
to not give up on myself.

And everything you see today…
came from that one choice—over and over again.

So if you’re in the middle of your storm,
wondering if you’re strong enough—

You are.

Don’t stop. Your life can change faster than you think. And that once choice is where the real story begins.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been smooth at all.

There were moments where I didn’t know how I would get through the next day—let alone build a future.

Moving to a new country alone…
Working multiple jobs while studying…
Being in an abusive marriage while pregnant…
Taking one of the biggest exams of my life at 40 weeks…

And then becoming a single mom, working six days a week with no support system.

One of the hardest moments was during COVID—losing my job while going through a divorce. Everything felt like it was falling apart at once.

But looking back, those struggles didn’t break me—they built me.

They forced me to grow, to take risks, and to become the woman I needed to be to create the life I have today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At the heart of Rio Dental, my vision has always been simple but bold:

dentistry should be accessible, elevated, and built around the patient—not the clock.

We are a 365-days dental care model, because pain, emergencies, and life don’t follow a 9–5 schedule—and neither should healthcare. Our mission is to remove barriers to care and create a system where patients can receive treatment when they need it, without delay.

Beyond access, we are redefining the experience through a concierge-style approach to dentistry—where comfort, personalization, and trust are just as important as clinical excellence.

My Clinical Philosophy

As a general dentist, I am deeply passionate about transforming lives through smiles.

Whether it’s:

fixing a single tooth, or

completing a full-mouth rehabilitation with implants or veneers

Every case matters. Every patient matters.

Because dentistry isn’t just about teeth—it’s about confidence, health, and quality of life.

What Sets Me Apart

What truly sets me apart is not just the dentistry—it’s the combination of resilience, vision, and execution.

I’ve built my practices from the ground up, through real-life challenges, which has shaped how I care for my patients and lead my team.

At Rio Dental, we don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” care.

We believe in:

personalized treatment plans

advanced technology

multidisciplinary collaboration

and treating every patient like family

We meet patients where they are—and walk with them to where they want to be.

What I’m Most Proud Of (Brand + Culture)

More than the number of practices or growth, I’m most proud of the culture we’ve built.

A culture where:

patients feel safe, heard, and cared for

team members feel valued, empowered, and inspired

excellence is the standard—but compassion leads the way

My team is not just highly skilled—they are aligned with a shared purpose:

to serve, to uplift, and to deliver exceptional care every single day.

That energy is felt the moment you walk into our offices.

What I Want People to Know About Rio Dental

At Rio Dental, we are truly a one-stop destination for comprehensive dental care.

From:

routine and preventive care

to

cosmetic smile makeovers

to

full-mouth rehabilitation with implants and sedation

We bring all specialties under one roof, so patients don’t have to navigate the system alone.

We’ve built a space where:

quality meets convenience

expertise meets empathy

and dentistry meets lifestyle

Because our goal isn’t just to treat teeth—

it’s to create an experience that makes people feel confident, cared for, and excited about their smile.

Closing Brand Statement

Rio Dental is more than a practice.

It’s a movement toward accessible, elevated, and patient-first dentistry—365 days a year.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is empowering people—especially women—to realize their potential, take bold steps, and reclaim control over their lives and their health.

Why? Because I’ve lived it. I’ve faced moments where I had nothing but a dream, a child, and the determination to survive. I know what it feels like to be uncertain, unsupported, and underestimated. And I know what it feels like to rise, despite all odds.

This is why I pour my heart into every aspect of my work—whether it’s transforming a smile, building a practice, or creating platforms like CE Connex that help other dentists grow. Every patient I treat, every woman I inspire, and every team member I mentor matters, because impact is the true measure of success.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about dentistry or business—it’s about creating opportunities, restoring confidence, and proving that with courage and persistence, anything is possible.
