Meet Dr. Megan McElroy of Wild Sage Family Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Megan McElroy.

Hi Dr. Megan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was raised in New Braunfels, Texas, and my journey into holistic health began back in my sophomore year at New Braunfels High School. While playing volleyball and golf, I sustained a low back injury that led me to my very first chiropractic appointment-thanks to my grandmother, who was an acupuncturist at the time and encouraged me to give it a try. Up until that point, I had planned to pursue a career in orthopedics, but that experience opened my eyes to the transformative power of chiropractic care and shifted my path from conventional western medicine to a more holistic approach to healing.

I went on to earn my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Parker University with a focus on family care, and I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science from Tarleton State University. I’m a proud member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and am certified in Webster’s Technique, Dry Needling, Torque Release Technique, and Activator. Along with those certifications, I have training in soft tissue techniques, cupping, and functional taping, which allows me to provide well-rounded, individualized care for every patient I see.

My passion for helping others achieve optimal health and well-being is what ultimately inspired me to open my own clinic-Wild Sage Family Chiropractic. I created this space so that individuals and families could feel supported, heard, and empowered in their healing journeys.

Outside of the clinic, I love spending time with my identical twin sister, relaxing by the pool, staying active with workouts, and playing with my energetic blue heeler. It’s such an honor to serve my community and walk alongside each patient on their unique path to wellness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After graduating, I took a leap of faith and accepted my first associate doctor position all the way up in Michigan. It was a big move-I didn’t know anyone up there, and I was far from family and friends. I wanted to give it a chance, but after about 8 months, it became clear that it wasn’t the right fit, and I made a easy decision to move back home to Texas rather suddenly.

Once I was back, I faced another hurdle-getting all of my licensing valid for Texas. It was a stressful process, but eventually, I was able to step into a new associate role in Bulverde, TX. Over the last year, I had the opportunity to work with some truly great doctors, and I gained a lot of hands-on experience. Like any job, it came with both its highs and lows, and I eventually realized it was time for me to move on.

Looking back, I can honestly say that every challenge along the way has shaped me-not just as a chiropractor, but as a person. Those struggles gave me valuable lessons, clarity on how I want to run my own office, and a deeper appreciation for the patients and families I get to serve today.

As you know, we’re big fans of Wild Sage Family Chiropractic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Wild Sage Family Chiropractic, I focus on helping individuals and families get to the root cause of their health concerns through gentle, neurologically-based wellness chiropractic care. My mission is to support the body’s natural ability to heal so that every person-whether they’re a newborn, an expecting mom, a busy parent, or a grandparent-can thrive in their daily life.

I specialize in family care and have additional training and certifications in pediatric and prenatal chiropractic, including Webster Technique. I’m also certified in Dry Needling, Torque Release Technique, and Activator, and have training in soft tissue therapies like cupping, functional taping, and myofascial release. This allows me to provide well-rounded and individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs.

What sets Wild Sage apart is not just the services I provide, but the environment I created. I wanted to build a space that feels warm, welcoming, and supportive-a place where people feel truly heard and cared for, not rushed through. Every patient’s story matters, and I take the time to listen, educate, and empower them in their healing journey.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the heart behind Wild Sage. My brand reflects balance, healing, and growth-it’s about more than just adjustments, it’s about nurturing health and resilience for the whole family.

I’d love for readers to know that chiropractic care isn’t just for back pain-it’s for anyone looking to function and feel their best. At Wild Sage, we meet you where you’re at and walk with you every step of the way toward better health.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up with my identical twin sister was such a big part of my childhood-we were inseparable. I played sports most of my life, starting out with volleyball and then switching to golf during my sophomore year of high school. Sports taught me discipline and teamwork, but I also had other influences that shaped who I am today. Some of my favorite memories are listening to my dad and grandma share stories about their work. My dad was a fireman and paramedic for San Antonio, and my grandma was both a nurse and an acupuncturist. Hearing about the challenges they faced and the people they helped sparked my own passion for health and serving others.

When I wasn’t at practice or in class, you could usually find me with my twin sister. Summers were spent swimming at Schlitterbahn or floating the Comal River with friends. I was also the kid who always signed up for every medical class my high school offered-I just knew early on that I wanted to be in the health field.

Another big part of my childhood was travel. Almost every summer, my family planned a trip somewhere new. It was a way for us to escape the Texas heat and explore new places together, which gave me a love for seeing the world.

In school, I was more on the quiet side. I got along with everyone but didn’t stick to one specific group. I think that openness has carried into my adult life-it’s helped me connect with people from all walks of life.
