Meet Dr. Amy Rollo of Heights Family Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Amy Rollo.

Hi Dr. Amy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Heights Family Counseling began in a small art studio in the Houston Heights with a simple mission: to make therapy welcoming and effective for individuals and families of all ages. Within our first year, we had five therapists and were rapidly growing. From the beginning, our goal was to support clients across the family: through play therapy, teen and adult counseling, couples and family therapy, and psychological evaluations. We believed that life is stressful enough, and finding the right therapist shouldn’t be.

Like so many others, 2020 brought big changes for our team. The need for connection and mental health support grew faster than we could have imagined. As our Houston office expanded, one of our amazing therapists, Steff Brand, shared plans to move to San Antonio and wanted to bring the same culture of warmth, professionalism, and authenticity to a new community. That conversation sparked the creation of Heights Family Counseling San Antonio, which continues to grow and serve families today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a business is rarely a smooth road, but our mission of being Human First and maintaining a culture of authenticity have helped us grow and thrive through every challenge. At Heights Family Counseling, we believe people need genuine connection—not just someone to tell them what to do. That philosophy has guided both how we care for clients and how we support our team.

We’ve also made it a priority to give back to the community that has supported us. Whether through donations, community outreach, or providing counseling to families in need, we strive to show up when it matters most. In the past, we’ve offered reduced-rate and pro bono services following community tragedies such as the Astroworld Festival, the Camp Mystic devastation, and for first responders during COVID. These experiences remind us why we do what we do and keep us grounded in purpose, even when the normal ups and downs of running a business arise.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Heights Family Counseling is a large group practice in Texas with the heart and feel of a boutique practice. We pride ourselves on tailoring services to each client’s unique needs and creating a holistic, connected experience. Our therapists often collaborate with schools, daycares, psychiatrists, and other professionals to ensure every client is supported as a whole person, not just as a diagnosis or a set of symptoms.

We approach our work through a humanistic lens, which means we believe you are the expert in your own life. Our role is to walk alongside you, to help you make sense of challenges, celebrate growth, and build meaningful change. Our therapists are known for being authentic, compassionate, and down to earth, creating a space where clients feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for.

We’re proud of the community we’ve built and the trust families place in us. From play therapy for children to counseling for teens, adults, couples, and families, we offer a judgment-free space where people can feel fully seen and supported. What sets us apart is our belief that therapy should feel human, practical, and connected to real life. At Heights Family Counseling, we don’t just want to help you through your challenges; we want to be part of your journey toward healing, growth, and connection.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Connection heals. There is something profoundly transformative about sharing your story and being met with warmth, empathy, and understanding. At Heights Family Counseling, we see every day how simply being heard—without judgment or pressure—can help people begin to heal and grow. Real connection allows people to let down their guard, see themselves with compassion, and rediscover hope. That lesson has shaped not only how we care for our clients, but also how we support one another as a team and as human beings.
