Meet Diana Salazar of Yard Card Queen-Converse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Salazar.

Hi Diana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Approximately 15 months ago, I was out of town attending a board of directors meeting when I heard this interesting conversation about a yard sign business. It automatically caught my attention and I was eager to learn more about it. So, shortly after I arrived back home, I started doing some research into this company. I contacted the owner, had some very interesting zoom meetings with her and that’s all it took. Two months later I was up and running!

At the beginning, I spent numerous hours, days and even weeks promoting my yard sign business through Facebook, Marketplace and of course “word of mouth”. For several months I dedicated my heart and soul on nights and weekends to expand my business and customer base. Needless to say, it has paid off.

The most exhilarating feeling to have is when I receive text messages (or FB comments) from my customers saying of how elated the celebrant was the following morning when they saw their sign on the front lawn. Especially with the younger ones and elderly, I can just picture an image in my head with their wide smiles and stars on their eyes. It makes my heart content and I feel as if I was their “hero” knowing that I made their day extra special.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I can honestly say that the main obstacle that I have is when a customer does not water their lawn before I set up their yard sign display. If all goes well, I can do a setup anywhere between 35-45 minutes. However, if the ground is not soaked, it can take me up from an hour to an hour and a half to finish the set up. I see this as a challenge because I don’t want my customers to get the impression that I’m taking too long because I don’t know what I’m doing. But in honestly, it’s because the lawn was not watered.

A challenge I’ve noticed lately is that there have been some competitors now entering into the area I service. However, I say no worries! As long as I continue providing excellent customer service and have great communication with my customers, this will not become an actual challenge for me. I feel confident enough to still succeed in the yard sign rental business!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
