Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren Ryan.
Hi Darren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
So many bumps along the road that my mind has been jiggled into selective forgetfulness. Starting over in new cities and countries, working outside the mainstream, and sustaining an independent creative life have all brought their share of difficulties. It’s not scientifically proven, but I think those bumps can give your work authority over time, if you play your cards right and don’t give up.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So many bumps along the road that my mind has been jiggled into selective forgetfulness. Starting over in new cities and countries, working outside the mainstream, and sustaining an independent creative life have all brought their share of difficulties. It’s not scientifically proven, but I think those bumps can give your work authority over time, if you play your cards right and don’t give up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a multimedia artist working across painting, digital art, photography, and experimental filmmaking. I’m also releasing new music, performing live ambient electronic sets, and occasionally DJing after-hours events. What’s most exciting in the studio right now is my work with live video mixing and projection. Presented in the right space, it can transform a room into something intimate, cinematic, and slightly unreal.
I’m most proud of building a body of work that moves freely between sound, image, performance, and atmosphere. What sets my practice apart is the way these different forms are brought together into immersive experiences that remain spontaneous, personal, and also difficult to reproduce.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m open to collaborations involving live projection, experimental film, music, visual art, installations, and multimedia performance. I’m especially interested in working with artists, musicians, venues, galleries, filmmakers, and event organizers who want to create something immersive, atmospheric, or a little outside the usual format.
People can also support my work by booking a live audiovisual performance or DJ set, inviting me to participate in exhibitions and screenings, purchasing or sharing my music and artwork, and following No Reality TV across YouTube, Bandcamp, and social media. I’m always interested in conversations that might lead somewhere unexpected.
