Hi Daizy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into cosmetology—and ultimately, the career that has shaped my life—began with the power of belief. It wasn’t just my own belief in myself, but the encouragement of mentors, teachers, and real-life angels who saw something in me before I fully realized it myself.
I’ve always been a creative soul, something I discovered at a young age, thanks to my paternal family and the incredible people who guided me along the way. Born and raised in Palm Springs, California (with a few small gaps in between), I was an eccentric high school student. My hair was always colored and styled differently, my fashion was a bold statement inspired by the late ’90s and early 2000s, and I was unapologetically myself. Though my outward expression was attention-grabbing, I was actually quite reserved—somewhat shy but always a dedicated student.
It was my teachers, and one counselor in particular, who truly recognized my creative spark. They believed in me so much that they presented me with an opportunity that changed my life: a chance to attend a trade school program that allowed me to graduate from both high school and cosmetology school simultaneously in 2002.
During those two years in trade school, I honed a passion that would later turn into a lifelong career—one that goes beyond just enhancing physical beauty but also nurturing overall well-being. One of my fondest beauty school memories was receiving recognition from my teachers and peers for my costume hair and makeup interpretation of Queen Amidala. The prize? A collection of hair products and tools—fitting for someone who had truly found their calling. I loved beauty school so much that, by the time I clocked out for the last time, I was two weeks past my actual graduation date! I was fortunate to have the best educators who genuinely cared about their students’ success, and if I could have stayed there forever, I would have.
Since then, my career has opened incredible doors—working with high-profile clients, commercial shoots, and various lifestyle salons. It hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has been an opportunity for growth. At this stage in my career, I’m proud to say my work speaks for itself, yet I remain a lifelong learner, always evolving.
Now, as I continue my journey in San Antonio, Texas, I’m excited for the next chapter—new experiences, new connections, and endless possibilities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anything worthwhile comes with its challenges, and moving to a new city is no exception. One of my biggest recent struggles has been starting over—building my client list from the ground up as I now work out of my studio and take on off-property projects.
Opening a small business can seem straightforward, but success truly depends on the effort you put into it. It requires consistent dedication—advertising, putting yourself out there, and actively engaging with the community. While it’s not always easy, I’ve learned that perseverance, authenticity, and a strong work ethic can turn obstacles into opportunities. Every challenge is a stepping stone, and I’m embracing the journey of growth, connection, and creativity in my new city.

I’m a licensed and experienced cosmetologist with nearly two decades of expertise. What do you like and dislike about the city?
San Antonio has a lot to offer! From restaurants, attractions for every one, beautiful walking trails, historical locations, and museums. In the three years I’ve been in this city I’ve learned it’s a great place for businesses like mine with plenty of room for all and for growth. Traffic can be the downside but if you plan accordingly you shouldn’t have a problem getting around it. I am loving San Antonio.
