Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Wells
Hi Chris , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I replied to an ad in the newspaper when I was 20 years old for a landscape company. I had zero experience with even pushing a lawn mower let alone anything skill related.
I paid attention and quickly became a crew leader. I was then driving the truck and trailer. The owner of the company noticed my desire to learn more and move to me over to the Landscaping side of things. That’s where the Landscaping world unveiled itself to me.
I paid attention to the types and names of plants we were putting in as well as understanding the flow of a design. I ended up becoming a foreman and started doing the specialized work. Mortared flagstone, building extravagant walls as well as very elaborate water features.
After 7 years I ended up becoming the manager of this same landscape company.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Once I reached management of the initial company I worked for 2009 hit. I was laid off. The company ended up going bankrupt. I needed to find something quick to support my family so found a job faster than I could even apply for unemployment. That particular company was brutal but I rode it out for about a year and found a better position but I still wasn’t doing yet what my passion was Nor equaling the pay I was making. After a few more years I was recruited by an extremely large landscape company to be a manager for them. I worked with them for about 5 years and the owner of that company ended up selling so I was once again without a job without doing anything to deserve that. I was quickly recruited by another large landscape company in management and worked another 5 years with them. They started downsizing and I was laid off. It was at that point I decided to take my future into my own hands and start my own company.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a landscape artist. I design projects based on needs, wants and budget.
When I meet a homeowner I see the area(s) of focus and these images come into my head of how I can transform from what it is to what they want it to be. Part of what I’m most proud of is I work from the bottom up. I didn’t just learn all of this because I read it somewhere. I did everything with my own two hands.
I think being personable and the ability to communicate is something that sets me apart
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m ranked with an A- rating at BBB.
Word of mouth is everything. I also have my website 2heartslandscapes.com
