Meet Casey Hamilton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Hamilton.

Casey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I used to be a high school Television Productions teacher in Florida – it was my old high school, the same class that I took, and we made the morning announcements for the school.

Midway through my third year, the pandemic hits, and I suddenly have a lot of free time on my hands, so I started posting on Tiktok and it all just took off from there. May of 2020 was the big month for me in terms of a liftoff.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It seems smooth, but trading a 9-5 for a 24/7 has been an uphill battle for sure. Plus, Tiktok creators don’t get paid the way people think they get paid, so it has been a struggle financially at times, as well as emotionally, mentally, and sometimes physically.

Trying to come up with ideas for videos EVERY SINGLE DAY can get taxing. When you start to associate your worth with a view count? It can deteriorate your brain at times.

Finding the balance is key, and I’m honestly still working on that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make a lot of madcap videos – voice impressions, singing, food tasting, dance videos, TikTok trends – I started as just a voice impressionist, and then gradually moved to having my content just be myself, and letting the voices I can do be just a part of that, as opposed to the entire thing.

I’m proud that I was able to amass a following with the traits that I have always doubted throughout my life. “Am I too obnoxious? Do I bother people? Are these voices funny, or annoying? Are my jokes landing, or just creating noise pollution?” Those are the questions I would ask myself, and it is nice to have that extreme validation of my goofiest traits. The key is not letting that extreme validation get to your head.

I think what sets me apart from others (but this is also what puts me in a select club on TikTok) is that I have managed to create a platform, a brand, and a following based entirely on who I am, and not a smoke-and-mirrors version of myself. I am proud that people say that when I am off-camera, I am exactly how I am on-camera. I try to be authentic while still remembering where I came from, as cliche as that may sound.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
In MY mind, I was a bit obnoxious growing up. I wanted people to like me, and I wanted to make people laugh. It took me some time to learn where the line was and when to cross it, and by the time high school came around, I was pretty good at it. I was very much a wallflower, jumping to different friend groups and social circles, but never really staying with one overall. I hope that I made people smile, I hope I brought some kind of joy to people’s lives one way or another, and I hope I made a good impression overall.

I LOVED movies as a kid, and still love them. It is my favorite form of escapism, and I am a huge movie buff to this day. I always wanted to be in the arts – theater, movies, music, voice acting – ANYTHING that allowed me to participate in my favorite forms of escapism.
