Today we’d like to introduce you to Brie Morris.
Hi Brie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My name is Brie Morris-Perez and I am the owner and Chef of Eleanor 1909 Authentic Philly Cheesesteaks.
Eleanor 1909 Authentic PhillyCheesesteaks @Eleanor1909Cheesesteaks, came into fruition October of 2021.
Brie Morris, Owner & Chef fell in love with cooking a main staple, in her adult home base West Philly/ South Ferry Section. If there’s one thing Philly does EXTREMELY well… no one is messing with Philadelphia when it comes to Cheesesteaks and Hoagies. Eleanor 1909 is named after the owner’s Maternal Great Grandmother, Eleanor, who had aspirations to own her own place. “I want to bring her dreams into reality, even if it’s through my little trailer”. Eleanor 1909’s motto is providing the ABSOLUTE best through fresh ingredients, sought after spices, keeping it/ buying local, and applying high end culinary techniques. That’s important to me for my cheesesteak stalkers loving name for supporters.
Brie is a classically trained Chef, Johnson & Wales University (Providence 09′).
Eleanor 1909 is a Black & Woman Owned & Operated food truck. 12995 Potranco Road.
“My thing isn’t to be better than anybody or compete. I just want everyone to have options and enjoy what everyone has to offer.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Whew.. it is a struggle daily. There are times when I spend my very last, on a product. JUST TO HAVE IT on my menu for my customers. It pleases me to see them light up when they ask for something that I made.
Being an owner is very broke… very broke especially if you’re self funded. But honestly, you have to be your biggest fan to keep going. You also have to be a gambler. You gamble on your livelihood everyday.
I’ve had other business owners take advantage of me being a small business and not having the same capital as them. You definitely have to keep yourself centered and try to be balanced while making all your decisions. Mistakes will be made. You will cry. You will get frustrated. But there will be days you smile and cry out of pure happiness.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
LinkedIn is great, trying to reach your chamber of commerce for small business but honestly VET YOUR MENTOR. Make sure this is someone that is an inspiration to you. You love how they run their business. Their outlook and perception and that they are a great support to you.
Also, try to stay in touch with your mentors.. I’ve done a horrible job at keeping up but the ones who have influenced me. Just know I do think of you. Lol.
