Meet Bridget Willard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Willard.

Bridget, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The short version of my story is that I’m a secretary by trade, a teacher by degree, and a marketer by instinct. I’m not sure how else to summarize 30+ years of working history more succinctly. My passion is helping small business owners build trust online. In marketing, we call this brand awareness. We want that word association. You know, when I say “tissue,” you say “Kleenex.”

The meandering of my career has culminated in finding my niche, using my passion to fuel my why, and building my legacy.

I’m a hands-on marketing marketer who manages social media for Big Data, FinTech, and other WordPress products and services. Along with copywriting for these businesses, I also teach social media to small businesses, have been a keynote speaker, and offer one-on-one consulting services from anything ranging from pricing strategy to Twitter training.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road in business is smooth. A chemistry teacher once told me that the only constant (K) is changing. We can count on change. Disruption from within, and without. As a vendor to businesses, I am affected by their marketing budgets, and changes in leadership. That’s completely fine. I accept the risk.

There have been tears. Many tears. And I have a therapist to work through these things as well as a few close friends in the business. You can’t control what happens within a client’s internal structure. You can’t convince them to believe in Twitter. What you can do, is understand yourself.

Marketer, understand thyself to thyself be true.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a business of one. Sure, I have vendors and writing partners. But I’m the CEO and the janitor. I’m the accountant and the project manager. I’m the gal Friday, the salesperson, and the CMO.

I specialize in building brand awareness on Twitter for tech companies. Every opportunity a small business has to level the playing field is one that makes me proud. When business owners feel validated and see their hard work recognized by their audience, they sit up in their chairs — literally. When I introduce my clients to one another, they collaborate. They build things.

I’m a people broker.

That’s what sets me apart.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The COVID-19 crisis put “the internet” at the forefront of business owners’ minds. I wish they’d prioritize having their own websites, but that’s another soapbox.
