Today we’d like to introduce you to Bo Jenkins.
Hi Bo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For our family, ABC has always been about family legacy and tradition. I’m actually the third generation here at ABC. My grandfather, Bob Jenkins Sr., started the company in San Antonio as a pest control business. He eventually retired and set the business up uniquely so that my father, Bobby Jenkins, and my uncles, Dennis & Raleigh, each had their own ABC and their own markets of Texas. My father’s is San Antonio, Austin, College Station, Corpus Christi, Waco & RGV. My uncle Raleigh has Houston and my uncle Dennis has Dallas. We share a name and the ABC brand, but we are 3 separate businesses. All 3 brothers have different business strategies as we’ve expanded into other service lines besides pest. This unique structure has been special for keeping the family close and we also get to learn from each other’s successes.
Growing up, I watched my dad, Bobby, build this company on a foundation of hard work and genuinely caring for our employees, customers, and the community. I knew pretty early on that I wanted to carry that legacy forward. There was never a doubt that I wanted to be anywhere other than ABC.
After I graduated from Texas A&M in 2014, I came right into the business. I wanted to learn it from the ground up which meant getting my field experience for a few years. I was blessed to have amazing mentors at ABC that took me under their wings. Many of them have worked with my dad on our leadership team for over 30 years and have been instrumental in my development. They have truly been like family, and I am forever grateful for their mentorship. In 2017, I stepped into the role of Branch Manager for our Bryan/College Station office. That was by far the best experience I could get. The College Station office was the smallest of our branches at the time and was not experiencing as much growth as we wanted, so it was a great opportunity to go learn how to grow a business. I spent five years overseeing all of our operations there—from pest control and lawn, while also introducing new services to the office like handyman, HVAC, window washing, and plumbing. I’m incredibly proud of what our team accomplished; we managed to grow that office by 180 percent in those five years.
The time in College Station prepared me for my next step. In 2022, I moved back to Austin to take on the role of Director of Sales. Over the last four years, I’ve had the privilege of leading and overseeing our sales efforts across all of our markets. It was a fantastic opportunity to drive growth across every single one of our service lines, from pest control and lawn care to AC and heating, plumbing, electrical, and pool services.
That brings us to today. I am now starting a new position as Vice President of Operations and Sales. This role really brings everything full circle for me—combining the day-to-day operational side with the big-picture sales strategies. I’m excited for this next chapter in my development and to continue building on the incredible foundation my grandfather laid down right here in San Antonio all those years ago.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
On a more personal level, one of my biggest early struggles was overcoming the stigma of being ‘the owner’s son.’ I was always very aware that I was under a microscope, especially when I was first starting out. I knew people might make assumptions, so I felt a deep responsibility to hold myself to a higher standard. It meant I needed to work even harder and truly earn the trust and respect of the team. I truly wanted them to know I was in the trenches with them.
While there are definitely bumps when you’re growing a business, we are incredibly lucky to have some absolutely amazing people at ABC. They are the ones who smooth out that ride for us. Navigating the day-to-day challenges is so much easier when you have a team that has a servants heart like ours does. Overcoming those hurdles together has been one of the best parts of the journey, and it is truly an honor to work alongside the incredible people we have at ABC. One of my favorite things we do at ABC is we read every customer review each week, its inspiring to hear our customers words about how well we treated them and made them feel taking care of their home and/or business.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
If I had to summarize ABC Home & Commercial Services, it’s this: One call solves it all. While we started as a pest control business in 1949, we’ve evolved into a comprehensive, one-stop shop for your home. Today, we handle everything from pest control and lawn care to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pool, and handyman services. Our goal is that when something breaks in a customers home, their first thought should be “does ABC take care of that?”
What really sets us apart is that while many home service companies are being bought up by large corporations & private equity, we are still proudly family-owned and operated right here in Texas. We have built this business to be multi generational and my dad is constantly recruiting the next generation to 2 things- Texas A&M and working at ABC.
We believe our customers love the convenience of using one trusted company rather than juggling five different unreliable contractors. Plus, every single specialist we hire is heavily vetted, background-checked, and highly trained, so you always know your home is in safe hands. We are extremely proud of the brand reputation that we have sustained in our markets and that is built on the high quality people we have at ABC.
What were you like growing up?
My dad always likes to joke that growing up, my sisters and I weren’t necessarily the smartest or the most athletic kids in the room—but we were always the nicest. He told us that being kind was the trait he was most proud of, and that really stuck with me. I always made it a point to treat everyone I met with kindness and respect, which I think naturally prepared me for a career in a people-first industry.
We grew up in a very traditional home where no matter how busy things got, we always sat down to eat dinner together as a family. My mom and dad would always ask us how our days went, my oldest sister even came prepared with “discussion cards”. I always wanted to hear all the details about what was happening at ABC from dad. We are a very close knit family and are today. We all live about a mile from each other and have balanced well the family business dynamic while also being close.
