Hi Bianca, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a passion for fashion, and I’ve spent over 16 years working in the fashion retail industry.
Prior to starting my dream of my own boutique, one highlight of my career was serving as a Visual Merchandising Manager at one of the largest boutique chains in the country. It was there that I truly fell in love with the creative side of fashion. I worked with fabrics, colors, prints, and learned to appreciate the art of visual merchandising. I also gained valuable experience in sales and business analytics, using those insights to optimize store layouts to maximize sales.
Almost 5 years ago, I took the leap and founded Defiant Boutique. Each year, we’ve seen significant growth and I’ve been able to merge my creative and business skills to build a brand that I’m incredibly proud of.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, I wish! Managing inventory is the hardest part. Figuring out what customers want and need is both an art and a science.
Adapting to change has also been huge. Trends move fast, algorithms shift, and customers evolve. Staying flexible has been key.
And of course, growth doesn’t happen overnight. I’ve learned to celebrate steady progress instead of chasing instant success.
We’ve been impressed with Defiant Boutique, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Defiant Boutique is a Women’s Clothing and Accessories Boutique. We specialize in trendy, curated collections that drop monthly so our customers always have something fresh, fun, and flattering to look forward to.
We’re known for blending trendy styles and core basics for real life wearability. Whether you’re heading to brunch with your girls or powering through a busy workday, we’ve got pieces that make you feel put together and empowered.
From fair pricing and quality fabrics, we pour intention into every part of the experience. We seek to empower our community by collaborating with other small business owners in the community. You can find us in store at Elysia Collective Co with 20 other small business owners – all locally owned.
We’re not here to just sell clothes, we’re here to help women feel like their best and boldest selves.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
It comes down to passion and purpose. I always say “I was made to do this, I feel it in my bones.” I truly love what I do, and that energy shows up in everything. Even outside of business, I strive to leave everything I touch more beautiful than it was before. This comes in handy when I select collections, merchandise my product, and plan events or photoshoots.
I also have that entrepreneurial hustle in me. I’m not afraid to take risks, ask questions, or evolve.
And ultimately, I always come back to the customer experience. I keep my customers at the heart of every decision.
