Meet Betty Lopez of San Antonio, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Betty Lopez.

Hi Betty, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My nail journey goes back 9 years ago, when I was 15 years old. It’s crazy to think I’ve been so blessed to make art and also help people feel and look beautiful along the way!
I’ve always had a passion for art and creating, I first started my journey as an oldest daughter trying to prove to her immigrant parents that i could indeed make a living off of my art. Eventually I realized what I unique set of skills i had within the nail industry and have since been specializing in hand painted nail art. In the process of building my business, I did face many recurring struggles, the biggest being my mental health. I was often in a place of being inconsistent because of my diagnosis, till I came to a point of surrender and aloud God to be the one guiding me, not only with my mental health but also in my business so that I’d have the guidance to balance both. Because of the way Jesus has transformed my life, my business and my mental health, I dedicated my business to God and now use it as a place to share my faith and speak to others about the struggles of mental health and also the transformative power of Jesus Christ. This gift I have though didn’t come from me alone so as long as I live I will use my gifts to give back to The One who gave me them and to His people. However, regardless of age, race, or religion, my studio remains a judge free environment where there will always be a safe place open to anyone who’s in need of physical, mental or spiritual upkeep.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As previously mentioned my mental health was a big struggle for me. Being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, unmedicated for so long led me to often cancelling to rescheduling clients which obviously was bad for business. However 9 years in business opens allot of opportunities for challenges to arise. Aside from my mental heath, there was several issues involving moving from location to location, almost getting fined from TDLR for practicing nails before I obtained my license, dealing with the closure of my studio during COVID, being pregnant and becoming a first time mom dealing postpartum psychosis. All of those challenges along with others not mentioned, led me to making difficult and unexpected decisions within my business. They were hard times and I’m sure there will be more, however I have learned from each of these struggles and gained so much insight, which I can now use to give hope and share my knowledge with others in the beautiful industry, preventing them from going down unnecessary paths I went down or to encourage them in their journey.

“…we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” – Romans 5:3-5:

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
