I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and from a young age, I was surrounded by creativity, resilience, and love — especially from my grandmother. She was the one who sparked my passion for hair. I would watch her do her hair with such care and grace, transforming herself with confidence and beauty. That energy stayed with me — the power of transformation, of helping people feel beautiful inside and out.
Growing up, I didn’t have much. My family didn’t come from money, and that taught me early on how to work hard, be resourceful, and hold on to every opportunity that came my way. My path wasn’t straight or easy — I started at the very bottom, working at salons across the city, learning everything I could about not just hair, but people. Each client taught me something new — about trust, confidence, energy, and connection.
After years of working for others, I knew it was time to build something of my own. I poured my heart, savings, and spirit into creating Benjamin Avery Salon & Barbershop — a space where artistry meets soul. My goal has always been to blend beauty, precision, and energy — making my salon not just a place for a haircut, but a place to recharge, release, and realign. Every service is infused with care, intention, and attention to detail — from balayage and barbering to energy cleansing and transformation.
But the journey hasn’t been without setbacks. I once trusted a business partner who ultimately betrayed that trust, leaving me to rebuild from the ground up. That experience could have broken me — but instead, it awakened me. It forced me to step deeper into my purpose, trust myself more, and create something truly mine. I started over with nothing but faith, drive, and the belief that everything happens for a reason.
Today, I’m proud to say that Benjamin Avery Salon & Barbershop is thriving — not just as a business, but as a reflection of who I am: someone who believes in rebirth, energy, self-expression, and the beauty of second chances. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. My journey has been anything but smooth — but every challenge shaped me into the person and business owner I am today. When I started out, I faced a lot of self-doubt, financial pressure, and people who didn’t always believe in my vision. I had to learn everything through experience — how to build a brand, attract clients, manage a business, and balance creativity with responsibility.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was trusting the wrong business partner. I put my heart, time, and money into building something that was supposed to be shared, but it ended in betrayal and loss. I had to start completely over — emotionally, spiritually, and financially. That was one of the hardest seasons of my life.
But I believe everything happens for a reason. Starting over gave me the chance to do things my way — with integrity, authenticity, and full creative control. It taught me how strong I really am. I went from being broken and uncertain to rebuilding my entire salon and brand from scratch — and now it’s thriving.
Those moments taught me to trust the process, to listen to my intuition, and to never give up, no matter how impossible things feel in the moment. Success isn’t about how easy your path is — it’s about how many times you can rise after falling.
