Meet Atreyu Alcantar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Atreyu Alcantar.

Atreyu, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was little, I was a SUPER huge nerd (and I still am) and I found myself crafting figures and props from video games I loved out of paper and clay. Around when I was 9 I went to my first comic con (Alamo City Comic Con) with my dad and was super enamored by the idea of making a costume completely from scratch to play a character. Soon after I got to work on spray painting a vacuum and modifying a backpack to make my first prop for my first actual cosplay- and that’s what kickstarted my passion for building cosplay. It took me years to get back to doing YouTube and TikTok consistently as I had tried before but never really got popular, but after my latest build (Springtrap) my socials have been blowing up and it’s been an insane year going from only a couple of thousand followers to almost a million on TikTok.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a relatively smooth road to where I am now, it’s just taken years and years of different projects for one to finally land and bring attention to my work. Finding the time to pour into building my costumes that can take around 200 hours to build on average was another big hurdle, especially while I was still in high school.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Cosplayer, but I specialize mostly in monster and armor type builds with foam and fabric. My most well-known project is my Springtrap cosplay based on the character from Five Nights at Freddy’s, and I’d say it is the project I am most proud of up to now since it has all the components I’ve learned how to make up to now. I’m honestly not too sure what sets me apart from others as I’m still trying to figure that out myself, though I’ve been told my acting skills inside my cosplays are really realistic for each of the characters I play. I do put a lot of effort into both the building process and the acting process to get the movements and voices down to stay in character at conventions.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Usually what I do is a one man job, I do get outside help for some of the processes I’m not too good at myself though. The biggest way people can support me is through watching my TikToks and YouTube videos, but I also have a KoFi so people can support me either directly or through my shop!
