Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Pell
Hi Ashley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a nomad of sorts and started my journey in the very small West Texas town of Tulia. What I loved most about my small town was the endless days outside. Some of my happiest memories are of being outside as a child and feeling the sun on my face and feeling connected to something bigger than myself. When I was a teenager my family moved about an hour away. I met my first husband at the age of 17, eventually we married and I had my first child. This began what I felt was my happily ever after. When our son was just 3 years old, my husband was in a motorcycle accident that ended his life. Devastated and uncertain of what the future held for me and my child, I chose to go back to college. I enrolled at UTSA and moved us to San Antonio. It was the fresh start that we both needed. I felt confident in my decision and began my undergrad in Psychology. During my undergrad I remarried a very handsome Navy guy, moved to Virginia, and had my second son. Once my husband retired, we found our way back to Texas and completed our family with our very high spirited little girl. My children became my life and as most mothers will tell you, you kind of lose yourself in that devotion. It was on a family camping trip when my son brought something up to me. He handed me what looked like a piece of glass. It was quartz! How cool! So we looked around and we found several pieces. Being on the camp ground with the sun beams hitting my face and the excitement of the quartz discovery, I felt that feeling again, the feeling I had as a child. The chaos was gone, I was calm, I was connected, I was grounded. That was really the moment that inspired me. Rocks and Gems became our new hobby. I would take the kids to local rock shops and we would all pick something out. One day I had the idea that I could do this! I could have a rock shop. And that is how MoonSpell Mystic was born. I have had the opportunity to dream this up with my kids and let them be a huge part of it. My oldest helps me with the markets and he has learned a lot about business in the process. It has been an awesome opportunity to learn and grow alongside him. Becoming a crystal collector has been a spiritual awakening for me and I enjoy learning about each crystals unique formation and properties. MoonSpell has given me the opportunity to connect with others and in the process I have met some truly amazing and inspiring people. I look forward to making many more connections in the community as we continue to grow.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest challenge in my life was the loss of my first husband and being able to rebuild my life.
Opening my own business has shown me that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to. It has pushed me to continue to grow. I am currently in grad school and also learning to play the guitar. Adding more to my plate has definitely been a challenge but I’m determined to do all the things I want to do in this lifetime.

MoonSpell Mystic is a crystal boutique that offers selections that have been carefully curated from around the world. We do local markets and have an e-commerce shop.

As a niche business my advice is to research which markets and locations that your product reaches its intended demographic.
